Hey everyone! I`ve been thinking about dyeing my hair dark brown or brown-black. Its light ashy brown now. I`ve never tried going darker before, and I was wondering if any of you have done this, and if so, how? Are there any good, gentle but permanent OTC dyes that won`t damage it? Should I just go to a professional? Also, I`ve heard that browns, dark browns especially, hold longer and better than other colors...is this true? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance :) Love, Ingrid

if you hair is fair one color, get it highlighted first other wise dark color tend to lok really blah an unnatural... sort of like it was painted on. the highlight will still be dack after you color it jsut with more demition.

Ingrid darling, I also have light brown hair and I like my color of hair because it looks good with my complexion and my eye color, blue eyes in my case. If you have lovely light brown hair why dye it? If you do dye it though, try a beauty salon, a reputable one. Don`t get me wrong I love brunettes, but natural brunettes look good as brunettes, you may or may not look good with that color of hair. Are there any beauty salons with "virtual" machines in your area? Those machines can show you what you would look like with various hair lengths and colors, giving you an idea of what to do with your hair. Call around using the yellow pages in your area, maybe you can find a salon that has a virtual machine that is also a good salon!(And the salons that can afford a virtual machine usually are good professional beauty salons)! I know you are wearing your hair short now. Are you going to even a shorter hairstyle or keeping it as is? Keep us informed darling! Much love Johan! p.s.-I noticed Carol and Tina also wrote into your poetry thread with their compliments, you are becoming a famous poet here on the web! As more people read your poem you will probably get even more compliments since it is such a beautiful poem and you write so professionally, like someone who has already published a book of poems!

Hey! Well, I dyed my hair....its JET BLACK!!! Yikes! Actually, I love it; its shiny and has that almost bluish sheen the black hair can get. My friend Jennie & I did our hair together yesterday at my house (she did hers a bright flame red- its looks incredible). It was kinda impulsive, since I was only thinking about doing it dark brown, but I`m happy I did it. I was kinda worried that it would look bad cuz I`m very pale and have blue eyes, but the black actually makes my eyes stand out more. :) Johan- since you asked about my hair, I`ll tell ya...its pretty short, just past the hairline in back and angled & layered on the sides (which I like cuz it just barely covers my ears, so I can wear it over them or tuck it behind). The front is about eye-length but I usually use gel & part it to the side or wear a headband or clips to keep it out of my eyes. ITs very curly and, of course, now its black (wierd!) I`ve grown to like it short like this...I`m definitely going to keep it shorter for a while at least, or maybe let it grow to a between chin & shoulder length...the last time it was this short I was about 8 years old, so I have no idea what it`ll look like once it grows out. I`m a little bit tempted to cut it way shorter to a crop-type look, but I dont think I`ll do that...who knows tho? Anway, thats what it looks like. Thanks again for reading my poem & stuff, Johan :) :) Love, Ingrid
