I'm getting married in August. I would like to have extensions put in before then, to be able to have the length for an awesome 'do. I have found a salon near me who does Visions hair extensions.

 

Has anyone had any experience with them? Or anyone have any suggestions for me otherwise?

 

I have fine, blonde hair. It's just touching the tops of my shoulders. It's colored, so it's not in the best condition but it doesn't seem to break TOO easily. I have included a pic. LOL! Excuse the crazy make-up. I was fooling around online and now I can't find the original pic. My hair is a little longer than this now.

I understand you being overwhelmed. There's a lot of info and options when it comes to hair extensions! They key is to narrow it down to your ultimate goal of having fake hair. For you it's turning it into an updo. To do that flawlessly, I think you have several options. You could use clip-ins, which would give you the temporary hair and can be manipulated into an updo depending on how you install them. You could do a partial sew-in or tape/glue extensions, where just half your head has extensions, so the length could go in the updo. Your perimeter would stay out to hide the fake hair. If you want to have the extensions for quite a while, fusion or something similar might be your best bet --- you can do anything with it (so I hear) and it lasts for more than two months. I would say your colour is #16 blonde (Bohyme), but I'm no expert.

 

Think about the length of time you want them in -- this will narrow options for you. I wish you good luck!

 

You don't need to get attachments for an updo. Most beauty supplies have all kinds of curls that are on one piece, you put your own hair in a ponytail and clip on the hair piece. The actual name of this type of piece is postiche. They also come in long ponytails, called a switch for a smooth updo.

If you're thinking of something more permanent do it at least a few weeks before the wedding. You don't want to get stuck with something you hate for your honeymoon. The hair not the husband.

I considered using clip-ins but am really hoping for something more permanent. I was really headed towards fusion but now the more I read the more scared I am. I think I may be leaning more towards sew-ins. Anything I should be wary of with them? I have now read that the skin under the wefts can become irritated? Yikes. lol...

 

How long will the sew-in wefts usually last?

 

And any suggestions of how to find someone good in my area to do them?

 

I definitely plan to give myself some time to get used to them before the wedding.

I called all aroundmy state looking for sometine to do this for me. One girl even said to me, "that is something they normally do for african americans." Um, lady. We're on the phone. How do you know I'm not black? Because I'm not speaking in ebonics? What a fool.

 

So, I ended up finding a women in my city who does them. I have an appt for a consult today. I will let you all knwo how it goes!

Good point!   Scary that she would make those assumptions and great that you caught on to that. Not sure why more 'caucasian' salons don't do sew-ins; it's not like fusion and micro links are much better for hair!  Can't wait to hear how your consult goes; good luck.

 

 

 

My consulation went great! The (white *gasp*) hair stylist was very nice and informative. She had fusion in her own hair and let me feel them. She put one in my hair too so I can get a better idea in case I want her to do them in the future. I am happy with my decision to do sew-ins for now. I don't like how the fusion feels in my hair... although I may find it better than sew-in, we'll see.

 

So, she color-matched my hair. And is ordering me some 22" straight strawberry blonde. It was $250 for the hair. I *think* she said the hair is "Hair Concepts"? I forget the brand but I know she said it was real human hair.  And she thinks I will be good with 4-5 rows. She's charging me $50/row. How does that sound??

 

I am SO excited to get them in. I have to wait until next Thursday. But you better believe I will be posting some pics when it's done.

 

8.08: I am so glad you found someone you trust and are going to try sew-ins! You may want to take an Ibuprofen before and after you get it OR just one after. If you expect SOME discomfort, I think you'll be OK. I bet it will look great and the hair sounds awesome. Good luck!

 

Yea, skybrie, My hair is a little longer now than in the pic... so I have the same issue. Hopefully with a little layering it will all blend nicely though.
