I`ve decided to again get my hair permed. I had it done by a professional about 6-7 years ago, a spiral. Right now I just want something simple, a little curl in it, but not exactly wavy. I`m not sure how to go about deciding how I do want it. Any suggestions or pictures that may help me? The hair person will be the same as my previous perm and me and my mom give her all our trust. She colours my mom`s hair every month.

have you thought or heard of a body wave perm?

More or less. Is it kind of like crimping, but last longer than a washing?

well, from what i know a "body wave perm" is like a curl perm but instead it is made up of voluminous waves. it lasts as long as other perms last- i think a couple months...

I`ve had both a spiral perm and a body wave. I didn`t think I would ever do another perm again but I got a body wave about 4 months ago. If you dont want a lot of curl then ask them to use the big big perm rods. The curl will be softer and not tight. My body wave did pretty good. It is about gone now. it held up for about 3 months before it started looking tired.

I`ve had 3 perms. The first and third were awful. my hair is naturally stick-straight, and the perms didn`t take well at all. I got spiral perms, and they used small rods...it didn`t help. My roots were curly, then it got straighter down the length, then curly at the ends. My hair was straighter in the back too. I`ve thought of getting a body wave because my hair gets limp, but I don`t think it`ll do anything for my hair.

Amanda, I think that they probably tried to wrap too much hair on the rod. I heard that when they put to much hair on the rod the perm solution doesn`t curl the hair evenly.. So you end up with sections of hair that is straight and not permed correctly.

Thanks Rachel. I think you`re right. I don`t know what the woman was doing. I had the same woman do my perm the 2nd and 3rd time. For some reason, the 2nd one just came out much better.

When I got my last perm in 7th grade (like 8 years ago), it was a spiral and last for several years. It didn`t get tired or anything, I keep very good care of my hair. What sizes of curlers are used for which types of perms and curls?
