OK, I need some help getting the timeline right in my head:

  • First, I apply bleach to dry hair
  • then wash it out after 40 minutes
  • but then how do I find the strands to tone them? should I let my hair dry, and then pick out the bleached strands in order to apply the toner mixture?
Really wishing I could just tone my whole head - that would sure be easier!

Clarification - if I were to do home highlights, how do I tone specific highlights, as opposed to toning the entire head?

Toner's will only alter the tone of hi lited areas and not your all over base colour.

I hope this has answered your question muppets, Karen.
