When I first dyed my hair it covered all my grey hair and the color was pretty. After that I just touched up my roots and combed dye through the rest of my hair for the last 10 minutes. The last time I did this, it didn't cover greys well and the color is a little dull. That was in March. I have to dye my hair again and was thinking of dyeing my whole head this time instead of just roots. Would that be ok, or should I always just dye the roots?

As long as your hair is all the one colour, then colouring your whole head will be fine, and just root touch up every 6 weeks. You can cover whole head in between root touch ups just to keep on top of your grey.

Ps even using a quasi or Demi, (I think they call it in the US), instead of using permanents all the time, causing less damage to your hair.

Thanks Karen. I'm thinking the dye might of been old. It was left over from when I dyed it before. Not mixed of course :). Anyways, it was only about 4 months, but thats all I can think happened. I bought some fresh stuff and am going to dye my roots only see how it goes this time.

Yeah, I think a semi/demi would work well for you. It is possible that your greys are becoming more resistant; not sure. The dullness could be because you pulled the colour through your hair at the end. Pulling colour through can look good right after the colour, but will go dull because of the damage to the hair. I would do your roots with a permanent (20 vol.) and your mid-shaft and ends with a semi (way less damaging). You also may need to put more neutral/natural/gold in your formula if you are not already.Smile
