Hi everyone!

First of all, I'm new here, found this great site while searching about hair extensions, very happy to see this forum because I am really into hair extensions.
I have been wearing clip-in extensions (which I make myself) for the past 2 years. I usually wear them everyday. It has gotten tiring and sometimes timely to do this..sometimes I am always afraid they are showing! I especially hate windy days lol.

So, I want to find a new method that will look good and is good for my hair. I have bleached blonde hair, length probably little above my shoulder (short hair!). My hair is straight and kinda thin (due to the bleaching and coloring I've done).

I want some advice on which method would be good for my type of hair. I've looked into the micro lock method, seems like a nice method but is my hair going to slip? What about fusion, is that one ideal?
I would just LOVE to have hair extensions that are free flowing not like the clip-in's that I feel are there and have to keep checking if its in place, LOL. I am looking to do one of these methods myself, not sure which!

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for reading!

I am not a professional, but DIY as well and I can tell you about my experience.

Personally I would avoid fusion.  I had it done 3 times (twice by different professionals and once myself) and I feel it damaged my hair.  Plus it sounds like your hair is like mine.  Just above the shoulders and fine.  My problem always is that I need more hair then most people to get the desired length and fullness.  With both fusion and microlinks I needed about 275-300 strands.  Most people do 200.  The fusion strands didn’t come out ever – but on the flip side they were hard to get out and damaged my hair.  The fusion took me about 7-8 hours to install and take down.

Then I did microlinks, which I liked for awhile.  They were much easier to install and I did it in about 5 hours sitting in front of the TV (take down about 2). But mine did slip a lot.  I tried silicone lined ones, regular ones, extended ones and they all slipped.  My hair is super oily and I have to put baby powder on it if I don’t wash it every day, so that was probably the cause.  But I would just save the ones that slipped out and after a week collect them and re-install.  My other problem was that blonde microlinks only come in one color, and my hair is a golden/honey blonde – so the links showed.  But if I had to choose between the 2 it would be microlinks for sure- and I loved the Tease I-Tip hair from YHS.

Now I am trying a skin weft.  I had it installed a few weeks ago with liquid gold but the tracks were too long and causing tension and coming apart in some areas, so I took them down.  But I loved it.  You can look them up online ( http://cgi.ebay.com/Skin-Weft-Weave-Remy-Human-Hair-Extension-18x36-24_W0QQitemZ230201454186QQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116 ) but they are a weft and the hair looks like it is growing from your head.  So I am going to cut the tracks in 2 inch pieces and install myself hopefully this weekend using tape, so I will let you (and everyone) know how it goes and post some pics.

Hi, personaly, I like the fusion/keretin because they stay in ,look so natural and ypou have tons of choices on hair, yes the down fall is taking them out, but if you take them out with care and do as I do, only take out whats falling out or loosining up and replace, because I mainyain ,then you should be fine.Wagmans hair is awesome and I just learned over the past few months how to install myself, so with that all said try fusin, and I believe you'll love it. Hope that was of some help.

How funny, I am new to DiY and also have bleached hair http://www.myspace.com/jairavalenti - www.myspace.com/jairavalenti I have shoulder length broken ugly damaged hair and have also worn clip ins for about a year also. Got sick and tired of the clip ins though. I also tried just five fusion bonds and could hardly get them out it was horrible. Micro links also fell out. I did alot of research on non damaging types of fusion strand by strand method and found this amazing stuff it is like wax. Comes out by just crumpling it with fingers. Have used it now for 30 days. Nothing fallen out, you can deep condition and I even have done my roots with no problem.  It is the only thing so far that has worked for me. Now I just need good hair, I used cheap Sally hair because I am broke. Hope this helps.  Here is the link. I bought the kit without the hair and the tan bond for blonde hair.   http://www.tiffanytwist.com/hair/hair_extensions.htm - http://www.tiffanytwist.com/hair/hair_extensions.htm

Hi blondiegurl, welcome to the forum! Smile

If your hair is damaged, thin or brittle fusion may not be a good option. Or any strand method. (The tiffany twist/manemax may be gentler than fusion). A strand by strand method may not be good if your hair is damaged or brittle and if your hair is thin you may not be able to get the volume you want with a strand method. A weft method might be a better option. You can add more hair, achieve more volume with a weft method.  You could look into a sew in, or if you are intending to DIY, the tape method is a very easy and pretty gentle method of application.

Before doing something drastic, you should find a really experienced hair stylist.

I have to agree with sherrie she has actually given me a lot of advice on my hair. Plus she has a ton of experiance she is my hair angel SmileI have bleached blond hair that is thin but I have a lot of it. However I use a micro link method and i love it except that my hair has broke off a ton from being bleached. My hair is healthy and taken care of but from the bleach it still breaks off. I would try a weft or a sew in method if i were you. I am stuck with my micro link by choice but i love the single strand a lot more. I do use between 200-230 every install and i do them myself but you should research them a little more to decide what will be best for you. Oh and I have this thing that if someone else can do something to my hair then so can I. As long as you research what you want really good i dont see why you need a professional to put extensions in unless you do fusion which i wont do. Just remember you dont know what your capable of doing unless you try  Wink
