I have dark brown hair that I havent seen for years apart from an inch of roots. My hair is full of loads of highlights, plus there is some orange colour & light brown. Loads of times I want to go back to natural colur but any time I get it done at a salon it ownly lasts few washes even though its permanent colour. It always goes a horrible orange colour so I end up having highlights again coz its the ownly thing that doesnt fade.

What do I need to do to dye my hair dark brown so it matches natural colour? How do I stop it fading orange?

Do I need to use other products b4 ( filers etc) so my blonde highlights dont go green etc?

Years of hi lites have taken your natural pigment out of your hair, so you need to replace it. When doing a clients hair as yours, I pre pigment the hair ( basically stain the hi lites with a coloured mousse, or semi colour dry into the hair, then apply the permanent colour on top of this) You may still get a little fading but not as much as before. The above will need to be done each visit to a salon, until you have no more fading.

 

However if you are doing this at home, a brown colour with golden tones should be used, when pre pigmenting, to avoid any green cast.

Where can I get coloured mousse from? Or u said to get a brown with golden tones, sorry to sound dumb but how do I know its got golden tones? Is there a certain colour it is usually called?

Do u think I need a protein filler? Ive seen some neutral ones on the net, but im a bit confused as to who needs them etc?

see how it reads "golden" that means warmth or red, which is what is missing from your hair, sounds like you have the orange.

I don't think you need a protein filler; just need to repeat the process for a few touch ups to make it stick better.  Color always fades, but as you grow it out then the highlights will be cut off and you won't have to retint them.  Make sense? 

 

The best way to choose a color is to buy a few and strand test what you think might work.

Remember do a skin test 24-48 hours before applying permanent hair colour, more so if you have never coloured your hair before.
