Supertape is an easier takedown for alot of people, usually less mess and goo. The oily removers can turn the tape into gummy gooey yuckiness. At least that has been my experience, and the oilyness is so hard to remove from my hair afterwards. Although some people have excellent results with the tape/oil removal combo.
I have always used acetone, as I find its a much quicker, less messy removal of any types of bonds/adhesives that I have encountered. In the long run I do far less damage with an easy removal. I do understand people having concerns about acetone. But my IMO, its not on my head that long, and probably no more dangerous/damaging than many other chemical processes that I do to my hair/body etc.
For me...I douse the acetone on one row at a time (and I use it generously, soaking it well) starting with my bottom row. Once the acetone soaks the tape well it will either slide it right out or sometimes you need to get your fingers in there and sort of lift the hair off of the tape. Either way its quick and easy.
I work one row at a time so the acetone isnt sitting on the tape or the hair for long. If the acetone sits on the tape for very long the tape will start getting gooey or the tape will stick in your hair and the weft will slide out. If I work quickly enough, after the taped weft is removed from my hair I can pull the tape strip off of the weft in one or two big pieces. And if I am not working quickly....I just set all of the wefts aside after removal and remove the tape by putting a little acetone in a disposable bowl (just enough to cover the bottom) and submerge the track/tape into the acetone and brush the tape off with an old toothbrush. Very easy and every bit of the tape comes right off. I have very little residue or stickiness left over in my hair...usually 1 good shampoo and I am ready for re-install.
Some people have more stickiness left in their hair than I experience and I think it has alot to do with body chemistry. My scalp and hair are very dry so I think the tape holds longer, and doesnt break down or get sticky as much as some people.
I dont sell acetone, but you can get it at any beauty supply, nail supply (heck they even sell it in Walmart now!) What you want is Pure Professional 100% acetone. And its dirt cheap. I think I pay around $5 for a huge 16 oz bottle.
