I posted this on the bloopers board, but I think it fits better here. My hair is a natural brown with lots of auburn tones. It has been dyed for many years. Originally, I dyed blonde and stayed that way forever. Then, I began going back more to my natural tones. Well, we are leaving for vacation on Tuesday, so I decided to color my hair last night. Let's just say that was a huge mistake. Where I left the dye on the longest and used the most is now orange ish. It's like a golden/orange/strawberry thing. My stylist is closed on Monday, so now I can't go to her. Please offer any suggestions to get rid of this orange. I just want to go back to the brown...without the gray.

You have to much warm tone in your hair before you coloured it. You need a brown with ash tone to cool the warmth in your hair. What colour did you use, and what vol of developer?

It is a light pure golden brown. I obviously made a big mistake with the color. So, do I use a semi permanent color now or a permanent one? I really want my brown with auburn back! Thanks!

I would use a permanent colour, only for the fact that the semi will probably just fade quickly. I would still still use something with a small amount of ash tone to take away some of the warmth/orange.

Hi, yeah, I agree with Karen; I would use a light brown on blonde colour (semi or demi) with ash in it. That will work for the short-term while you're on vacation. this has happened to me in the past, and I just used Natural Insincts 'Linen' and it covered it quite well. It will be darker, but it totally cuts the orange/red. HTH!

im a natural redhead, and i somehow managed to do my hair orange too, i put a mid ash brown over the top of the orange mess, and first it went black! however - now, three weeks down the line its pratically my natural color, perhaps a little darker, but in there light i can see the red tones really well. so id recomend using a medium ash brown, but not one too light as it may not cover the orange.
