Hoo Boy--Have been coloring my hair blonde for years and wanted to cover gray for my b-day.  Have never had a problem before.  Used Natural Instincts Golden Blonde, and left on a little longer than it said to cover loads of grays.  Needless to say, hair is now brassy DARK red.  Cry Can't afford stylist, husband and I hate the hair color, and am hoping someone can give me advice on how to fix via something I can buy at Wal-Mart.  Otherwise, I am going to look and feel like complete idiot! I became and unwanted redhead 48 hrs ago.  Many thanks in advance! Tongue

Hi, To much golden  can add extra warmth to your hair colour.

Buy another colour with an ash tone, this will cancel out the red tones in your hair. Or you can buy a toner with the ash( blue/violet tone)

What is the difference between a toner and a dye?  I had the same problem and was given the same advice.  Haven't done it yet.

Hi Jill,

Colours deposit or lift colour out of the hair , changing the total colour. Toners are just to cancel out any unwanted tones in the hair, ie, yellow/brassy tones use and ash blue base toner.

I hope this answers your question, Jill.

PS your more than welcome darcytoo, have a great b-day
