Hi All,

I haven't posted on here in awhile. Anyways, some of you may remember that I was considering getting highlights done to go blonde. I found a stylist who has lots of experience and I felt like she said exactly what I wanted at the consultation. She said she was going to use more than one color and create a multidimensional effect. She even said that she could make my hair gradually get lighter as it gets towards the ends (not balayage but a technique that mimics that effect). I loved everything she said and showed her a picture and scheduled an appt because I felt comfortable with her.

My only question is this - I am going for a very natural looking blonde color. Should I trust a hairdresser that has a blue streak in her bangs to create a natural look on me? Perhaps this is silly but part of me thinks you should choose a hairstylist with similar taste in hair colors.  I like a more refined and natural look. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Should I be having doubts based on this one issue or just trust her?

Thanks for any advice!

Hi,

It shouldn't never matter what colour of hair the stylist has, it doesn't affect her ability to do her job.

I'm a hairstylist, my hair is spiky short at the back, long at the front, dark brown in colour with a pink section at one side, and I can assure you my clients trust me no matter if my hair was green, lol.

Go with your gut instincts, sounds to me that she knows her stuff.

Good luck,

Karen

Does she use a color that you may have enjoyed in the past a (brand)?  I wouldn't worry of her hair. Is she certified???

I remember one year my hair expert was thinking of having dreadlocks for a hair show LOL.  She is an awesome perm/texture expert... her hair however is BABY fine brown & so delicate I can't imagine how she would get it to hold curl :). I have natural blonde 7 wavy.

The more creative they are able to be the better hehe....

Is it just me or does it seem like the UK (karen_S) has the bestest! When researching all the awesome Hair experts dressers are in the UK I don't know that I even wish have mine done here I want to go there...Goodness it makes me wish to move~!!

Hi Borneblonde. She is certified. She works at an Aveda salon and happens to be one of the more experienced people there. I have no idea what their brands are like but I've always regarded that salon of good quality. I think I will most likely go for it. Thanks for the encouragement Karen!

So I went through with it and it wasn't really what I had in mind. Ends look okay, not as blonde as I'd hoped though. The roots, however, came out orange! I go back to her today so hopefully she can fix it for me.  I really want it to be light blonde highlights but applied more heavily to the ends than the roots. Right now my hair looks kind of blah medium to dark blonde with orangey roots. Yikes. Well, I go back to her today and will definitely give her another chance since I know she was trying a new technique. I think she can fix it for me and I still have confidence in her. Wish me luck!

I'm super excited! It came out great. My hair has lots and lots of lovely light blonde highlights. I feel like a movie star. I'm glad I gave her another chance and will definitely stick with her as she fixed it for me for free.
