From Sally Beauty Supply, what would you purchase to bring

BROWN

to

ASH BLONDE

???

I'm a little confused as to whether a dark ash blonde needs toners or not... so could you give me a recommendation of which product to buy from Sally Beauty Supply?

Thank you ever so much!!!

Hi,

If your hair is a virgin head(had no colour) then you can use bleach to remove the dark pigment from your hair, then apply a toner which should bring it down to an ash tone. However if you have previous colour on your hair then I would recommend,( This is only my opion) you can apply (after bleaching) a hi lift colour with ash tone wella 12/1 is a good one, this will make your colour more even.

Use a blue bleach with 40 vol developer
Hi Lift colour maybe wella 12.1 with 40 vol of developer

(Only use 30 vol if you have virgin hair)

I hope this helps a little,

Karen

THANK YOU ever so much, Karen! Smile

I am having a little trouble finding a toner on the sally beauty website. The darkest ash blonde toner I can find is this one: http://www.sallybeauty.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-SA-Site/default/Product-Show?pid=SBS-320373&dwvar_SBS-320373_color=%23303+Champagne+Beige

Below I included some Swatch charts from Sally's & Wella & Clairol

http://www.sallybeauty.com/Wella-Color-Charm-Liquid-Permanent-Hair-Color/WELLA14,default,pd.html?cgid=Hair05-01

At Sally the ones with #T are (toners) but Maybe KS meant tone=color & that is the list for the permanent colors. :)

Yeah, I would say if you're going from blonde down to dark blonde, then you can use a depositing colour (low peroxide) to do that. Don't use a toner.

If you're going from brown hair to ash blonde, then you will need to bleach and then colour back down to the ash. A highlift will never give you an ash colour, unless you are already a level 8 or 9.

I would go more for the hi lift with an ash, as fakeizme has pointed out toner will not do much, if you have previous colour, you will have some brassiness, so apply the colour after bleaching, need to get to a level 8 then apply the hi lift. If you go for the hi lift, make sure it has an ash tone, this will cancel out any brassy tones.Smile

Thanks!

My brown hair is virgin, sorry I didn't mention that before.

But I also have platinum blonde bangs, so the next thing I need to know is how best to deposit color on to that.

From

to

and you guys have pretty much already answered that question, as well (color deposit, low peroxide? got it!)

Hi Muppet's, as you are going to be depositing colour the ash blonde will deposit the same colour to your bangs, as it does to the rest of your hair, once you have bleached it. As your hair is virgin ( apart from your bangs, lol) when bleaching you can use 30 vol, this will be enough to lift the brown from your hair. I don't think you will need a hi lift, as you have virgin hair, it really depends on what level after bleaching your hair is.

Muppet: watch out for that blonde section because an ash on top of it could turn it grey-ish or blue-ish. You may need to deposit a golden tone on it first, then put on the brunette colour. You need to replace the pigments you stripped from it. If your hair is virgin brown, you won't get ash blonde with ANY colour; you will need to bleach. Good luck!

Hi muppet, if you feel the ash colour turns silver or blueish in tone a simple bleach shampoo will sort that, mix a little blue bleach with shampoo.

Sorry all these different opions, must confuse you, Wacko, lol

Thanks you guys, for all of the advice!

I did just add some ash blonde dye to my platinum section, and it's now gray... *eep* Dead    Not sure how/what "bleach shampoo" is.  I have a packet of Clairol "blue bleach" powder, and may add a tiny bit of that to a handful of shampoo tomorrow for the gray parts.

OK, I didn't put any of the clairol powder bleach in my shampoo.

I shampooed and conditioned with my regular products today, and in the clear light of day, my hair looks better.... there is a slight gray tinge still, but it's not as bad as I thought.  I may post pictures later.

In the meantime, I can't help but comment that it's curious that I tried to dye my hair several times using Wella color from Sally Beauty, but it never took.  When I dyed my blond part last night with the regular ol' boxed dye from the grocery store, that's when it took.

Hi Muppets, the grey ting will fade as you wash your hair. However you can use the bleach shampoo for 2 mins to speed up the process if needed.

As for the wella colour, what one did you use, was it a hi lift,(12) and did you use the 40 vol ratio 1:2, what level was your hair after bleaching, sorry for all the questions, but must be a reason for the wella colour not working.
