Hi, I've been trying to highlight my level 7 hair with almost platinum hightlights.  My hair has been previously highlighted but has about 4-5 inches of regrowth.  I can't afford my salon anymore so am trying to do it myself. I tried Goldwell 10P with 30 vol. and 10A with with 30 vol on 2 different strands (my hairdresser also used 30 vol in the past). It wasn't light enough and was orange. I tried same combo with double 40 vol. and it was lighter but still orange/gold. All was processed 45 minutes and a little heat at end of processing.  I've heard of Oxycur Platin and blonding cream but I don't know what the difference is or what formulation to use with the above Goldwell products I already have.  Everyone here has been so helpful here and you are all very knowledgable I has wondering if someone could help me?

I would like to stay away from bleaching if possible as I want shine to my hair and Goldwell has been very good to my hair.  I just don't know why I can't duplicate the color my hairdresser achieved. Thank you very much!

Your hairstylist has put a colouring curse on you! LOL

Sack, when you did your test strands, did you wrap them in foil? Just wondering. It's possible that you are one of those Level 7s that is hard to get past the orange/gold stage. This is where the blonding cream comes in. You could try one part 40 vol. with one part 10A with a squirt of blonding cream in it and see if that brings you up. Honestly, you are getting to the point where using the Oxycur Platin would make more sense and be easier on your hair. The high ammonia in the blonding cream isn't really 'gentle' on the hair. I know what you mean about shine though. Although, if you used a semi toner on it with some good conditioning, your hair would shine! Tongue

Hey Fakeizme, thanks for your help, again!  I didn't realize my hair was going to be this stubborn.  Yes I did use foil and I'm starting to think that my stylist had to have used blonding cream or something else to increase the lightening of my hair.  Do you know if the blonding cream for Goldwell is called just that or is it all of the 11 series-I don't have a clue.  Would the Oxycur Platin be more gentle on my hair and is it considered a bleach?  What would be the process of the Oxycur, I know I'm not suppose to use it with 40 vol. and no heat but I'm not sure of the mixture.  Do I mix a scoop of it with my 10P or 10A and say maybe the 20 vol.?  Would I then put the semi toner on all my hair(even the uncolored hair) after processing and shampooing?  Do I then shampoo again.

Can you suggest a good semi toner-I happen to have T28 Wella Color Charm in Princess Blonde(ash base-I'm assuming I'll want to tone with a ash toner) Correct me if I'm wrong, I'll need to mix 1 part toner with 2 parts 20 vol and leave it on until the orange/gold disappears?

Sorry for all the questions, it's my 1st time and I want to get it right. Thank you for all your help!

NO problem Sack, I totally understand wanting to get colour right the first time!!! Big%20smile

-- I think I have this (bought on Ebay) and it is Goldwell Blonding Creme. oh no, I have the Matrix Socolour blonding creme..sorry! But the Goldwell is a separate product that you can mix in with your blonde colours -- not sure if you can mix them with the highlifts though. You should google some info on that. Honestly, I mix the SoColor creme with all types of highlift colors (different brands) and it does give them a boost. Just a squirt added to the colour. Oxycur Platin is bleach. If you use it with 20 vol., it would be more gentle than using highlift with 40 volume. You have to watch bleach carefully though, because if left to get to white, it will be damaging!

--With the Oxycur, I would mix to consistency (meaning mix it to the thickness that you want to work with). Pour out the bleach, then slowly add the peroxide and stir till you have the consistency you like. I honestly don't know if you can add it to the 10P or 10A, but I would say, no, because the bleach would eat through the colour! If you had a lot of gold/orange tones in your hair after all this, you could apply a semi-toner --- AFTER shampooing the blonde bleach/colour off and drying. I wouldn't shampoo again after the toner --- you want it to settle into the hair.

--I think that T28 sounds good. I would suggest adding a bit of cheap conditioner into the mix of the semi and peroxide to make it less intense. You don't want it grabbing onto the light blonde. Toners are tricky because when you hair is very porous, they want to grab dark and off-tone. You could also spray your hair with a light leave-in conditioner before you apply it to make it less porous. Another option is to buy a neutral-based toner (not sure of names) so you won't need to worry about it going grey or blue.

Remember this: you can TONE orange/gold, but it will eventually come back. It just means that you should have bleached/coloured lighter the first time.

Thank you so much fakeizme, really appreciate all your help.  I think I'll order some blonding cream and bleach and see which process I like best on a test strand.

Goldwell's blonding cream is not the same as bleach.  It is high in ammonia to give extra lift.  However, you can mix it with equal parts of 30 vol to give subtle, tone on tone highlights.  With that said, I would use 11P or 11V with double 40 vol.  You could use double 30 vol with all the 11 series colors.  Highlighting with color should mean that you do not have to tone.  The level 10 does not have enough controlling pigment to negate the warmth.  BTW, 11P is my go-to highlift color for levels 7+.

^^^See, I couldn't remember if Goldwell had a higher level than the 10s!!LOL Excellent advice from Ifixbadhair. The 11P or 11V is probably exactly what Sack should use.
