OK, I had to answer you and tell you don't give up! I can totally relate to broken off hair after I used highlift, bleach and double 40 vol. on my hair in one session! Yeah, stupid!
Well, a whole bunch of my hair broke off -- that was a year ago February. I immediately started doing deep PROTEIN treatments. That has helped my hair tremendously! If you do protein treatments (eg. Nexxus Emergencee or Aphogee Treatment for Damaged Hair) every week, followed by a deep moisturizing treatment (eg. Redken All Soft), your hair will get stronger and appear healthier. Of course, nothing can FIX damaged hair, but you can keep your hair on your head until it grows out and it will fool people into thinking it's healthy hair!
I currently wear extensions as well (do-it-myself tape and clip-ins) which give my hair a rest and allow me to do my treatments faithfully. You don't have to cut off your hair. You DO need to treat it like fragile lace though. Try to avoid a lot of manipulation, like flat irons and curlers. Only do them AFTER you have done a deep conditioning; never on dirty hair.
Good luck!
------------- Love clip-ins and tape!
