Depending on how bad the damage is, you may need to cut it all off and start over, this would be the case if it is all over your head. In the event that it is just in certain spots and not all over, you may want to wash weekly and deep condition each time with heat for 30-45 mins. Also, oil your scalp with castor oil or vitamin e oil. Adding 5-10 drops of rosemary essential oil would be beneficial.  Make sure that you tie your head up with a satin or silk scarf at night and find a good daily moisturizer , whether it be creme-based or water based. HTH

I had a very similar experience before I went natural (in fact it was this very experience that made me go natty in the first place.) I started doing regular deep treatments, starting with a heavy protein (like Aphogee) once per week and a lite protein following later on that week. Moisturizing treatments were done every other day or so- be it with a thick cholesterol or a simple hot oil treatment. I only did this for the first month of my transistion- but then I was slowly snipping hair off.

It might work for you to slowly snip the too damaged bits off as your hair grows out.

I definitely concur with Caramel who suggested tying the hair and scalp massages are always beneficial.  I have to plug my beloved Vatika as a nutritive and wonderful hair oil and adding Rosemary and/or Lavender Oil couldn't hurt.

I don't to have to cut it all off, but I's trying to grow it in evenly.

In that case just want to wait  a few months and trim a little until you even it up. I had a bad hair cut once and i had to wait like 2 or 3 months to grow the shorter side out. When it did, I trimmed a the longer side to even things up. They caught up with each other after a couple of trims.

hey! this is stephanie..i'm new in this site. I have naturally african american hair; really curly..and every since i was in 5th grade i've used relaxers and perms to make my hair curly. I'm tired of blow drying and straightening it every day and I just want my curly natural hair back. what's the best thing to do?

You can transition from relaxer to natural or do a big chop. When you transition, you grow your hair out and trim periodically until you trim the relaxer out. You have to be really careful because dealing with two textures is hard. HTH

P.S. Leave the heat alone and opt for no-heat styles such as braids, cornrows and/or weaves.
