About one month ago I went to my hair stylist to get my naturally curly hair straightened. Well, it looked great after she styled it and everything, but then two days later when I washed it, I looked like Don King! The straightening process was wreaking havoc on my hair shaft. And to top it off, a week after the first straightening my hair stylist called back to see if I was satisfied and needed a touch-up. So I went to the salon again and she said I didn`t need to do much, but I was thinking the exact opposite. Anywho, after the second time of chemically straightening my hair, I waited 3 weeks and just two days ago I colored my hair Midnight Ruby-level 22! It was from L`oreal Feria, of course-but I look like a clown now! F.Y.I...I`m only 16 and still have to go to dreaded public high school. Can anyone give me some advice as to what I should do?

Hey, I`m really sorry to hear that. Honestly. I have been tempted to get my hair chemically straightened (medium long/wavy naturally) but the stories like yours have kept me from doing it.

The fact is, anything else you do to your hair at this point that involves chemicals is going to result in problems. Problems as in hair breaking off problems. I see two viable solutions here- a) deep condition and live with it as best as you can or b) deep condition and wait until your roots have grown out to pixie length (this will probably take about 2 1/2 months) then cut off the damaged hair and go around with a pixie cut until it grows out. While growing it out, don`t do anything that would involve putting more chemicals in your hair or you`re going to end up with the same problem.

I know cutting off your hair sounds like it would be a drastic measure. The thing is, from what you`ve written it doesn`t sound like the current fried hair is ever going to look healthy whatsoever. You used drastic measures to change your hair and now you may want to consider using drastic measures to fix it.

Believe it or not, I`m just *slightly* envious... I think it would be really fun to have a pixie cut. You could spike it, etc.

Anyway, good luck, let us know what you decide.

Hi Noelle; If your hair looked great after your stylist blew it dry...Why not ask her to teach you how to style it. Some chemically straightened hair does not look finished until it is blown dry, with the right straightening serum, hot blow dryer and a good boar bristle brush. If that sounds too hard maybe a big curling iron or flat iron.??

When you went into the salon for the second time did your stylist seem open to helping you learn to style your straight hair? If you are going to play around with color at home, think about a semi-permanent color...its easier on your hair. Do you need your color corrected?
Hang in there. :)
