Well...I definitely got results this time, and I do like the change (I so needed a change) but they are too red on top.   The sides are great, they only developed for 15 min but the hairs in my crown developed closer to a half hour and I guess I lifted too much color. It's copper up there, and needs to be fixed. I also applied too much on the left side of my crown.

These were taken just after:

Here is where it's just too red

I tried applying a demi in light ash brown for 30 minutes, hoping to cut the brass...it maybe cut it by 10%, not enough (the pic was taken before the demi).

How do I fix this? I think I can just go over it with permanent medium ash brown, but I don't want to completely cover it (although I doubt it will...I know my hair...that red will come through). Remember, I have color treated hair, medium ash brown. Natural color is medium warm brown with a lot of grey in the temples/sides (75% grey there but little grey elsewhere). There is a pic of "before" in the other thread.

I am not against keeping it and just trimming a lot for the next 6 months as this is only in the top/front and my hair is layered. No color developed in the bottom half of my longish hair.

A semi or demi colour with green tone to cancel out the red tones, this should do the trick. This should cut your hi lighted areas down to a Carmel.

OK, so how do I find a demi with a green tone?

Looking at the Redken Shades EQ chart for example (http://www.redkensalon.com/skills/haircolor/shade-charts)   which shade? both of the green ones seem too light.

What about drugstore brand color? Those never indicate whether the tones are green, blue etc.?

Ash is a green tone, so you maybe need to use a darker base over the hi -lighted areas, example a medium ash brown. use a semi to see if this works first.

Update: the whole thing faded from a very red copper to a (very)warm medium brown...I like it now! It sort of looks the way that first pic looks.

Now I have to decide what to do when my roots grow in in another two weeks or so. I bought 2 boxes of demi: a medium ash brown and a medium warm brown. I'll try one before doing anything permanent (which I'll have to do eventually because of my grey).

Hi, Did you use the medium ash brown or was it a warmer brown used.

I was just thinking if you want to stay away from the copper/red tones then better to use tha ash brown.

Elissa; I think your hair looks really nice! I understand the first shock of seeing red/copper, but it does usually fade, as you said it has. In the future, I would leave tone with a neutral brown shade, so you don't remove the copper tones, just dull it a bit. Good job!!!Tongue
