I think people just develop their own preference of methods and products. I myself wear wefts, usually clip ins but sometimes bonded with tape. For me, it's quick and easy to do for myself.
After giving thermo a good try, for me it's much more fussy than a good quality human hair.
For clients, I usually sew in or bond wefts, or do fusion, or shrink links. With a decent quality fusion or the shrinkies, removal should not cause damage if you do it properly and with extreme care and patience. An inproper removal where damage results is common with inexperienced stylists or an inexperienced DIYer.
I don't think Sally's Beauty sells good quality hair and I doubt their keratin is top of the line either. For good fusion hair and rebond chips, look into http://www.donnabellahair.com - www.donnabellahair.com . I have been using that brand, as well as So Cap and the bonds are durable, little shedding, but do come out easily with proper removal.
