My hair is naturally dry and for the past 2 years I have taken to double processing it. The result? My hair is totally dry and damaged. I've stopped the double process (single for me now) but what can I do to get it so it doesn't look so dry, frizzy and just plain ugly? Please help me...I've tried a leave in conditioner but nothing seems to work.

Hi paperdoll,

Please see your stylist to receive a series of protien and moistlurizing treatments. Professional stylist have the "industrial strength" stuff to help condition it and make it stronger.

I suggest you go to a salon that has Redken concentrates. Look in your yellow pages and call around and ask if they use these and say the name REDKEN CONCENTRATES.

I hope this helps

Hi paperdoll,

If your hair is prone to dryness, stop the double processing. This is extremely, extremely hard on your hair and it's not going to get better with time. As any biologist will tell you, hair is really just a chain of dead cells. And unlike skin, which can heal itself with time, hair lacks the cellular regeneration necessary to repair itself. That means that once damaged, hair can NEVER be repaired. That's why it is so important to avoid heat/chemical damage altogether rather than try to remedy the situation post-op.

As grim as that sounds, good emollient-based conditioners and styling products can imitate the look and feel of healthy hair. These products all work similarly: They coat the hair shaft, thus smoothing cuticles roughed up from the repeated swelling inherent to color processing. Protein treatments work exactly the same way. No product can truly "reconstruct" your hair, regardless what the bottle says, but they can mask damage and impart a smoother feeling. I recommend conditioning regularly and laying off the processing as much as you can. Good luck! :-)

At some salons, it is a brand new color product by Goldwell, called Elumen. It is supposed to color your hair and last for quite a while. It fills in the porous spots and leaves your hair smooth and shiny. It is supposed to give you really healthy hair. I'm probably getting it done today, if they have the right colors in. However, you could do a web search and type in Elumen for a better description than I could provide.

Paperdoll, here is some information directly from Redken...Things are changing every day in styling and treatments for hair. Professional Hair companies spend thousands and thousands of dollars on R&D. Don,t think that there aren't options...because there are.
Simply find a Stylist that is up on his/her education and get yourself some immediate results in the look and condition of your hair.

EXTREME
Deep Fuel durable strengthening treatment

• Helps restore very distressed hair back to its natural, healthy state
• A durable conditioning agent provides long-term conditioning and repair that lasts up to eight shampoos
• Hair is stronger, shinier and more manageable
• After 5 single treatments, hair is up to 3 times stronger*

A scientific breakthrough, our 3D Repair Complex builds long-lasting strength and conditioning into hair leaving it healthier and more manageable. It is specially formulated to provide a triple line of defense:

Proteins penetrate deep into the core of the hair helping build internal strength.

Ceramide enters the cuticle layers to reinforce the structure and help repair damaged areas

Natural Lipids, like those found in the hair, help resurface the hair leaving the cuticle shiny, smooth and protected.

Hi Sophie,

Do you have an ingredient listing for Deep Fuel or know of a site that does? I'm curious...a little cynical too, since I'm a propaganda-meister by trade (corporate PR, what can I say) and I tend to take claims from a marketer with a grain of salt until I can see the FDA-regulated list for myself. Thanks! :-)

Sophie, is everything you wrote for one product called Extreme? And is this a salon product, not the same as their Extreme line already out?

I think it's a brand new line that Redken is just now putting out...Lili might know more.

I got the info from the Redken site. I really am a big Cat Protein fan, have been for years.

But I will try this new line and, I will get ingredients for you Lyris.

I'll even try to get to a class on it. Big seminar coming up in May. I'll get more info there.

Meanwhile...Lili have you tried this new product line yet???

Yes I have, I believe ti is the same as old extreme with better fragrance and little more moisture added to it. Former extreme was mostly protien.

Lyris here is the list of ingrediants for Exteme deep fuel;
water/aqua, cetyl alcohol, propylene glycol, divinyl-dimethicane/dimethicone copolymer, dimethicone peg-7 phosphate, orbignya oleifera seed oil, behentrimonium methosulfate, guar hydroxyproyltrimonium chloride, phenoxyethanol, fragrance/parfum, quaternium-33, phosphpric acid, pei-35, hydrolyzed wheat protein, methlparaben, ethyparaben, propylparaben, arginnine hci, disodium edta, taurine, cetrimoonium chloride, hydrolized wheat starch, hydroxyethlcellose, ppg-5-ceteth-20, xylose, oleth-10, disodium cocoamphodipropionate, lecithinm 2-oleamiso-1, 3-octadecanediol (d4407/1)

Cat treatments, as I taught them, and I was taught, builds with taurine a chain of bonds between each cutilcle and creates a perfect surface for the hair to accept protein. It can be used up to 4 consecutive times.

I also have the ingedients for the shampoo, conditioner and anti-snap if you need them.

(you owe me after me having to type all of that, my fingers feel numb) He He

Aighhh! That's a lot of typing. The first 5-6 ingredients would've been enough, since those comprise 80-90 percent of the entire product and would have saved your fingers! :-) I am a top reviewer at epinions.com and everytime I review a hair product (I've done about 30 now) I have to type the whole darn list. Not fun! I don't really see anything in the ingredients unsusual to the Redken Line. Is this a leave-in styler or rinse out?
