I normally had dark blonde hair but then I dyed it to a really light blonde for about 4 years and used a hot iron and every other damaging product you can think of for my hair.  I recently decided to change my hair to a more natural look that would be easier on my hair, so I went to a salon and they died it close to my natural hair color, took off all my split ends and deep conditioned.  This was 3 weeks ago.  I have not used my hot iron at all but I still use a blowdryer, I condition daily and deep condition once a week, and I never use hairspray.  I really want my hair to remain healthy and grow long, are there any tips that anyone can offer me??

Quit using the blow dryer!  It's still going to dry your hair out and split your ends!  I use extra virgin olive oil on my length over night, once a week and condition it out in the morning.  I have cut back to washing my hair about once a week now, conditioning only.   I have noticed a BIG difference!

I have even started doing an apple cider vinegar rinse after conditioning with a quick rinse to help tame and smooth my hair and it's also suppose to add shine.  I fill up a 20 oz bottle and dump a bit in and mix.

But yeah, you should stop blow drying your hair unless to are using a cool setting.  I'm sure others will weigh in soon! Smile

I think that blow-dryers are OK for some, as long as the super hot setting is not used. Lots of conditioner, even cheap stuff, is helpful, and toss any plastic brushes. I can tell you that since my wife stopped using brushes, and replaced them with large Goody combs, it's hard to find a split. And her hair hasn't been trimmed for a year! Good luck to you, Bob Big%20smile

I am also trying hard to grow out my hair...and I would recommend the same thing Addy mentioned- not washing my hair each day ( maybe 3 times a week ) really helps to keep dryness and breakage to a minimum.

Your hair really does not get that dirty unless you're sweating a lot, or in a smoky environment, etc...And try to keep styling products like gels to a minimum too.

Though it's not attractive, I gently tie back my hair so I don't even touch it most of the day :-)

Also, I use a wide-toothed comb instead of a bristle brush as much as possible; it's easier to de-tangle while both wet *and* dry...Oh, and of course condition, condition condition !

I use Mane & Tale herbal spray ( it has both olive oil and jojoba I think ) and it works wonders too. Hope this helps :-)

Addy - what kind of difference does this make for you?  I really want to try this.  Do you wet your hair first or just put it on dry hair?  I am also thinking you put a cap over your hair.
