Okay, I started doing my mom's hair so she'd stop paying $75 every other month to get her hair dyed. We'd been doing blonde with just bleach, no toner, since it came out a shade she really liked but since it's getting closer to winter we're going darker..a medium intense burgundy by Ion, and a "blondest blonde" from Clairol [both Sally products], and the person she went to before always put on dye, then bleached highlights in, and toned. That seems like a terrible amount of damage for a pro to do, but not being a professional myself by any means it does seem easier, but what would be an easier way to go about putting in chunky highlights? She has it about 2" long in back, and about 6" long in front with short sideswept bangs. She wants the back the solid color, and the front/bangs highlighted. Any pointers on how I should go about doing this? Thanks  ------------- doubt truth to be a liar. |

My niece went from light blonde to burgundy once, but her hair came out barney purple, not what she wanted, then when she tried to lift it out she wound up hot pink, (then dyed over that again to cover it up). I know you dye it all the time so I know you probably know, but since its your mom I just wanted say, I'd definitely not skip the protein filler. I'm no pro either, but I'm with you, since she just wants a solid chunk of blonde in the front (if I understand right), I'd just leave a blonde chunk out when you go darker with the rest. Its going to be way safer for her hair than dyeing it dark and having to lighten it again. It shouldn't be too hard to clip those pieces out of the way since they're right over the forehead. I agree with Susan, just bleach any root area on the chunk of blonde, then clip it well out of the way, and do your solid colour over the rest of the hair. Remember to rinse ( rinse well) the the colour off first keeping the blonde chunk out of the way, as to avoid the block colour running into the blonde.

Alright thanks :] I have red protein filler and neutral, which would be better to use? I'll probably do it tomorrow so i'll post pictures of the finished look =] ------------- doubt truth to be a liar. |
