HI! I'm back, posting a follow up from my highlighting appt. on friday. Well, my hair is a bit lighter, she went through with foils again, I explained to her all of my issues (too golden, front not light enough) And here is where I am now:
Sorry the pics are so huge. I still have the same issues with my hair though. It is now light enough but I still think its too gold. She toned it afterward, and used 10/16 and 9/16 (Wella) which is supposed to be ash based and left it on for 10 minutes, no heat. 10 or 20 vol. developer, I can't remember which. So I am stuck now, thinking I should tone it myself in a few weeks. I was looking at Wella's toners online and I was wondering about the "Princess Blonde" toner. It is supposed to be blue/violet based. Here are my main concerns: 1. Since I have yellowish/gold tones in my hair now, will the blue in the toner turn my yellow strands green? 2. I also have pieces where my hair is almost white and I am scared of them turning purple. 3. Would this particular toner make the gold pieces more light brown/taupe, cus that is what I am looking for. Same level, just a cool/ash tone. Here are some pics in differnt lighting with my camera set on "Neutral" This is kind of close to the color I want (plus the one from my previous post)

Oh, one more thing....I also have a layer of dark/medium brown on the underneath, which I was hoping would be lightened to match the rest of my hair, but I guess she didn't actually put highlights through all of it, just along the bottom hairline.
Do I leave that section out when I tone it? What would happen if I put the toner on the darker hair? |

I would put the toner all over.
As far as I know toner wont lighten your hair (or at least for me it doesn't) it will only change your undertone.
Try a blue or violet toner as this will counteract the yellow/orange (warmth) in your hair.
My hair does the same when it's dyed blonde I get a lot of warmth which I absolutely hate, my hairdresser does a toner for me and I use a violet shampoo inbetween appointments.
Ironic thing is that my natural un-colored shade is ash toned.

| So is mine! My natural color is like a really dark ash brown. I think no matter what, when you go light it just pulls warm. How long does your hairdresser leave the toner on for? I think the issue I have is that maybe mine didn't leave it on long enough. |

Hi Jender,
I love your colour, I can see a slight warmer tone in the first 2 pic's but the others(except last as I know that was a photo from a while ago) look a lot more cooler, however I don't know if the first 2 pics are now, or is it just the light reflection off the camera that is giving the warmer tones. We have the same problem with the lights in our salon, artificial light seems to give the illusion of warmer undertones in clients hair, (which is a pain, lol) so we always take them over to a window and show them their colour in natural day light.
If you still feel your hair is too warm maybe going to have to use another toner, leave it on a little longer, the risk of it turning greyish/blue hue are high, thats probably why your stylist avoided leaving the toner on too long. Have you tried using the purple shampoo's , however you need to use this up to 3-4 times before you notice any change.

Thanks Karen! Yeah the first 2 pics are what it actually looks like.
The second 2 are what I would prefer, i took them under a "daylight" bulb and with my cam set on "neutral" That third one is my Holy Grail color, done with one of those makeover sites. I have used some of the shampoos, but they don't really seem to do much for me. I was actually considering using Goldwell to tone it. Specifically the Colorance demi-permanent in 10P mixed with 10V. I was searching online and found some good reviews of them. Does anyone have any experience with these? |

| Okay, I'm changing my mind. Think I may try the new Goldwell Colorance in 10 BS, supposed to be a beige/silver, so maybe that will give me the color I want. I just hope it's okay to use on all my hair and won't kill the lightness of my highlights. |

Hi Jender,
I recommend you do a strand test first, as the beige may well grab on to the lightest blonde, just a thought.

Okay, well I did the color last night and I honestly can't tell the difference. I did a strand test first for 25 min. and thought I saw a slight change, then did my whole head and left it on for 35 min. and I see nothing. I don't know what to do now. All I want is for the dark yellow to turn beige and the only tiny difference I can tell is that my hair looks slightly lighter....I mean like a teeeny smidge lighter.
Does anybody have any ideas on some other things I could use???? edit: Okay I lied. Upon closer inspection, the yellowy parts have gone silvery white, but the gold is still there--believe me, now it looks really weird. Geez, what did I do?? |
