Hi, there. I'm a 22 y/o male who is growing his hair out...again. Stupid me, I cut it just when it was getting long. I had it just past my shoulders, then caved to...well..'peer pressure'. Everyone at work has those trendy close-cropped hair-do's which I despise. Anyways, I felt like an outsider n stuff so I cut mine off. And man, do I regret it! Right now my hair is only a few inches long. I've got a long way to go. Anywho, any general tips or advice? Oh, I do have one question. I have to wear a hat as part of my uniform at work. Will that affect hair growth at all? Damn, I had other questions but I forget them now. Oh well, I'l likely be lurking. Cya later.

Welcome to the board Coyote
Sorry to hear that you felt pressured into cutting your hair. I think a lot of us have been there and regretted it. Anyway, this board is here to counter-act such pressure and give you support in whatever YOU want for YOUR hair.
Now that your hair is short, I suggest you give it some special care to ensure it’s health and good condition as it grows out. Some areas to consider:
1. What is your hair type? Are you using the appropriate products for your hair type?
2. What do you use to groom your hair – brush, comb, etc? Are these implements hair friendly?
3. What are you gong to do if/when split-ends occur? How do you want your ends to look? Do you want an even hair length or do you want it naturally variable?
Actually there are loads of questions but it all depends on what your specific hair goals are, in terms of length and style.
I don’t believe that hair growth per se can be affected by a hat, but the hair itself may be bent and thus damaged or weakened by the daily pressure in the same part of the head.
There is lots of good information for long hair care and hair care generally on Hair Boutique. If you want hair advice specifically for men and to advise on peer pressure, I suggest you check out Bill Choisser’s website: http:// - http://www.choisser.com/longhair/ - http://www.choisser.com/longhair/
Do come back here and post often, though. This is a great place to come for long hair support, learning and fun.
Best wishes
Uzi

Thanks Uzma. I just thought I'd say I love your quote. I'm a HUGE Neil Gaiman/Sandman fan. You've got good taste ;)

Neil Gaiman's only the bestest author in the world! ;) He's British too. Head over to the library and pick up one of his books. I bet you won't be disappointed. He writes fiction with twists of fantasy. Very good stuff. Then again, I'm heavily biased hehehe *ahem* Anywho...

Hi Coyote
Gaiman’s Sandman and Death series were great, but my personal fave is Alan Moore’s V for Vendetta. Moore must have tapped into my psyche because V reads like a biography, gritty post-Industrial England, the shearing of Evey’s hair and all. Also love Hellblazer, Watchmen, (original) Miracle Man……WHOA.. I’m off topic/board/forum!!
Hey Kintaro
Um. If there was an icon for embarrased blushing female, I would use it now. All I can say is that you are an inspiration to me.

There are a few things I can be an inspiration for, but none of them are positive.
Don't let me corrupt you :P
