Well I know how much you all love biotin and say how it helps with hair growth.
I started taking 300 mcgs a day a few months ago (and while mostly my nails grew like crazy and my hair a little) I had TERRIBLE break outs!! My skins oiliness increased alot too.
I kept thinking it couldnt be the biotin and kept taking it,but then I got so frustrated I stopped and my face remarkably cleared up again!!!

I feel so cheated because it seems it to work so well for everyone else and not for me.I want my hair to grow faster too,but I just cant have bad break outs like that!
Before you tell me it could have been something else doing it,I really dont think it could have as I've been doing the same and using the same and havent been stressed or anything.

Is there anything else that can help hair growth besides biotin???

Different things make different people break out (I found out after 20 years that what was doing it to me was bread products.  I think that's why its so hard for drug and beauty companies to fix all of our complexions!)  I'm glad you figured out what was doing it though.  Don't feel bad about biotin, I tried it and it didn't do squat for my growth either, so I don't use it either.

Thanks Susan.I was reading up about biotin and found that is a kind of bacteria that is naturally occuring in the intestines and most people dont need to use a supplement.Maybe that is why it caused my acne to flare since I seem to already have too much bacteriaAngry
I think there was a post on here before about this topic, but I wonder if anyone else has break outs when using it.

Do you use anything extra to help with your hair growth Susan? Or is just a multi vitamin good enough?

Nope, I don't even take a multi.  I think my hair would grow faster if I did, but most multis have iron in them, and iron seems to build up in my body if I take them or eat fortified breakfast products (which often have way too much iron in them), so I don't do any of that anymore.  I did find multi's containing no iron at the GNC, but they had too much of some of the other vitamins, so I just gave up the whole thing and try to eat lots of things that I know have the different vitamins in them every day.  My hair does grow pretty slow, so I just wait.

Hi Jules! Big%20smile I think that vitamins, creams and ointments help only marginally, if at all. Hair growth rate varies somewhat from month to month, and I'm sure that the manufacturers of products relish that fact. Everyone *wants* to believe that some magic potion increases growth, or in the case of guys like me with pattern baldness, that some serum has brought follicles back to life.
Now, to get to you specifically, I think I fully understand your dilemma. You would really love to attain the long hair of your dreams, but frankly, when hair approaches or reaches one's shoulders, it has a mind of its own. Bobs often look better than longer hair for a period of six months to a year. I'm sorry about what happened to your major progress, and I know that it's frustrating to have to go through the tough stages again. But, really, from a guy's perspective, a little wildness and unpredictability in a woman's hairstyle is not a bad thing. From what I see, you could easily go for a year or more without any trim, or maybe one microtrim if it'd satisfy you. Methinks that all you need to do is use a curling iron or ponytail it to make it through "bad" hair days. Shed the perfectionism; relax and enjoy the process. Remember, what happened once can happen again! Wink Bob

Thanks for the words of inspiration Bob SSmile!

I think when my hair gets a little longer,I'm going to lose the bob cut, because I can be a perfectionist and they are a pain to grow out without frequent trims! Plus I'm just getting tired of the style,I have had it so long now.

I guess everyone is different with hair growth. My husband eats terrible food and is addicted to dr.Pepper.yet,he can buzz his head and have 6 inches in like 2-3 months! Me,I eat healthy, workout and my hair seems to grow slow as a turd. Not fair.

I know of other people who have used biotin and have break outs as well. Do you drink a lot of water with it?

I don't think that biotin would make your hair grow faster, I know it promotes stronger nails and helps maintain healthy hair (strength, sheen) and promote the growth of new hairs (which is another side effect people have; the growing of hair elsewhere)

Thanks Princess.I do drink alot of water all of the time...although I'am not so sure it was the bitotin making me break out now.I was on presciption Lexapro and found out one of the side effects for that was acne.I quit taking it about two weeks ago,and what do you know,my face has never been clearer!!! Perhaps it was both working together to make me miserable though,LOL,who knows?

Glad you narrowed it down and you never know it could be a combo of the two.

I have a hair and nails supplement which contains 2.8mg of biotin and I notice it makes my face extra dry/sometimes a pimple or two when I don't drink enough water

Mine was extra oily which is pretty bad cuz I'm already oily,LOL

That is a really good point...maybe it WAS both of them together doing it.Hmm...maybe I'll try again in a few weeks and see what happens and post about it.

Yeah you never know if the two combined would have some sort of reaction or if they both have a side effect on your skin, and using both could be like double tha trouble.
And some prescriptions are very strong.
