Hi everyone!!! Im new to this board...lemme give you some background...about 5 years ago had Japenese straightening done...5 years ago was my last after several years of having it done perfectly! Recently, I had a mane tame (relaxer)done.  This was my second one....anyways, had my hair colored about 2 wks after and all was well.  Went for color again on Saturday and as my hairdresser was drying my hair she noticed that I had sometype of film on my hair....she and others said it actually looked like someone had sprayed white powder on my hair.  Anyways, after spending 4 hrs in salon, still no luck...the more they tried to correct, the worse it was....went back the next day they took out all the color...im a brunette btw.....and started over.....everything looked fine until they started blowing it dry....as soon as heat hits my hair, turns white again....now they are telling me its metal....could be water, could be something in my body, etc.....does anyone know anything about this....They even used a shampoo to take out any minerals on my hair...still no luck....so I left salon after they used cold air to blow dry my hair and brown  BB powder to cover the greys/whites....etc....HELP!!!

That's really strange, I never heard anything like it.  If they used a metallex type shampoo to remove metals, I really don't know what else can help.  Unless you clarify or use a baking soda/shampoo mix before having it dyed.  I had a problem recently when dyeing my hair, I still had coconut oil in it, and the dye didn't take on those parts of my hair and it left a slimy film I had to remove with baking soda/shampoo and clarifying shampoo, but I didn't have anything like my hair turning a different color when heat hit it.

The sounds like some sort of chemical reaction. When some chemicals oxidize, they produce a white powder. I have never heard of it happening on hair though. Are you sure it is not something happening because of what they are using at the salon since it is happening there? I would probably try to clarify really good, maybe use something like Metalex that removes metals and blowdry it at home.

Thanks so much for your reply! After they took out all the color and re-colored hair again, everything looked fine until they started blow drying so thats when they used some shampoo like Metallix.  They said they used to use Metallix...anyways, whatever they used still didnt help.  Im going to see if I can find that product or something else...Im actually thinking of going to drugstore and find sometype of detox for me to drink just incase its something with me...

You can mix your own, just use about half baking soda with half shampoo, you probably don't need that much, it blends really well together.  If you dyed your hair a darker color though, and also because your hair is porous, your color may fade right out doing this or clarifying shampoo.  I mention these though because I don't know what's going on so if you wanted some ideas, faded color may be better than residue on your hair.
  Good luck!

Thanks Susan...Im going to try it.  I dont really care about the color fading at this point....If the shampoo they used that replaced Metallix didnt work do you think the baking soda will do the trick??? Guess worse that can happen is the color fading right???!! Thanks :)
