I just bleached my roots and they turned a yellow color - kinda inbetween gold and pale. Last time the toner that I got was Clairol Creme 302. But since it didn't lighten my roots enough this time I got Clairol Creme 301. Basically, from what I can tell, it didn't really do much lightening on my hair at all. I don't know why but toners don't see to do what they're supposed to for my hair. They barely alter the color leaving my roots more yellow than the rest of my hair (which was previously highlighted with near platinum highlights).
I want it to be less yellow so I was thinking about going over it with a toner again, except this time I want to use a semi-permanent toner since it's less damaging and I could probably do it tomorrow.
So I decided to go with Born Blonde Semi-Permanent toner. It supposedly comes in 8 shades, but I don't know which one to choose because I can't find the swatches anywhere. I can't find product info on the ClairolPro website.
The shades are: Silent Snow, Innocent Ivory, Beautiful Beige, Winsom Wheat, Happy Honey. (That's only 5 that are listed at Sally Beauty)
I have no idea what they look like so I don't know which one to choose.
Could someone help me out to pick the right one? Basically I want it produce the same results as Clairol Creme 301 - 'white blonde.'
I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks! My birthday is in two days and I don't want to look like someone poured egg yolks on top of my head. (It's not that bad but still too yellow.)

When you bleach to yellow is it pale yellow? I have heard it takes longer for the color to take onto the new roots & therefore despite that the instructions for creme toner say up to 15 minutes it actually could go to 30 on the roots or so checking along the way wiping off the strand to see if it has taken the color. http://www.cachebeauty.com/Clairol/born_blonde_color_chart.htm here was a shade chart of the semi. I have also read that the semi requires Pale Yellow to develop. You can always strand test these as you go along. I would imagine the Platinum , silent snow, and lastly blissfully blonde... but these colors look different on diff. monitors (frustrating that Sally's doesn't sell certain colors like the Sheer in Creme Toner to mix with the others or the Platinum in Semi!  or the Manic Panic Virgin snow OR the PEARL DEMI in Color Charms GRRRRRRRRRR RANT (sorry)!HAPPY BIRTHDAY (early)  oh P.S. I also mixed 301 & 323 to get more of a platinum white. If you wish for less platinum use less 323 but note that the 323 makes the 301 yes (yellow) if you didn't lighten it up enough to the pale yellow stage. Also You can use Roux Ultra white violet or white violet on your roots to help them look more "white" or less yellow. |

Yes, it's pale, for some reason it looks lighter when it's dry. When my hair was wet it looked much more yellow. I guess it's not as bad as I thought. But if it turns more brassy and looks yellow in other types of lighting than I want to try and tone it.
Thanks for the chart. That helps a lot. I didn't know that you could leave it on longer since I usually just leave it on till it's recommended which is between 5-10 minutes for 301. Thanks for the info. Next time I'll definitely leave it on longer.
I also had no idea that you could mix them. That would probably work great. Next time I mix my roots I will definitely do that. It will most likely create the color that I want.

I do have a swatch of the 302 & That is what I put the Roux white minx or ultra white minx on to turn it more ash/silvery. Also, I tried combinations of 303, 307 with other toners & Don't Bother as they are TOO dark and mauvy. They would be great for tint-backs. I was disappointed with 307 because it was supposed to be almost white/ blue-violet & the hue looked too beige dark for my taste. Despite claims that violet reduces yellow I like BLUE to get the white. There are many shampoos to help keep the yellow away too. Goodluck with the toning & getting the perfect shade.

| Blue definitely works better than violet. I currently use a purple Stay Blonde shampoo that they sell at Sally Beauty. It seems to do a good job at reducing some of the yellow that I had in my hair previously. I realized that the only shades that aren't too dark are 301 and 302... probably 323 as well but I haven't used that one yet. All the others are too dark or too yellow. |
