Lots more good than bad on last night's Golden Globe Awards:

The Good:

Laura Linney: Two words: Oh Yeah! One of my best of show nominations, for sure.

Amanda Seyfried: Nice updo, but knowing how much gorgeous hair she has, I was hoping someone might sneak up behind her and let it loose. (Same with Kate Beckinsale.)

Adrianne Palicki: Perhaps the best I have ever seen her look. And let me take a moment to plug "Friday Night Lights," which returns to NBC this Friday.

Maggie Gyllenhaal: Maggie has never looked more beautiful. Great updo, perfect makeup. I could have watched her be interviewed all night.

Rhona Mitra: To me, this was the best news of the night: Rhona's hair is long again -- at least for one night.
http://cache3.asset-cache.net/xc/84251197.jpg?v=1&c=NewsMaker&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF19346E4C5E9CA073261D499A0D187C6D2ECE30A760B0D811297 - http://cache3.asset-cache.net/xc/84251197.jpg?v=1&c=NewsMaker&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF19346E4C5E9CA073261D499A0D187C6D2ECE30A760B0D811297

The Not So Good:

Cameron Diaz: Roots? To the Golden Globes? Really?
http://cache4.asset-cache.net/xc/84247962.jpg?v=1&c=NewsMaker&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF19346E4C5E9CA07326175E80E874259AD4FE30A760B0D811297 - http://cache4.asset-cache.net/xc/84247962.jpg?v=1&c=NewsMaker&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF19346E4C5E9CA07326175E80E874259AD4FE30A760B0D811297

Hayden Panettiere: She cuts her hair, yet is never seen at any major event without extensions, making it look like she never got the cut at all. What's the point?
http://cache4.asset-cache.net/xc/84247300.jpg?v=1&c=NewsMaker&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF19346E4C5E9CA073261834671DAE5891B04E30A760B0D811297 - http://cache4.asset-cache.net/xc/84247300.jpg?v=1&c=NewsMaker&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF19346E4C5E9CA073261834671DAE5891B04E30A760B0D811297

Glenn Close: Her hair is a lot shorter than she wears it in her F/X series "Damages." She also looks a lot younger on the TV show.
http://cache1.asset-cache.net/xc/84247017.jpg?v=1&c=NewsMaker&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF19346E4C5E9CA0732616908933C2D92A1B4284831B75F48EF45 - http://cache1.asset-cache.net/xc/84247017.jpg?v=1&c=NewsMaker&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF19346E4C5E9CA0732616908933C2D92A1B4284831B75F48EF45

Rumer Willis: Demi cautioned her daughter about the importance of good posture but said nothing about her hair?
http://cache2.asset-cache.net/xc/84246415.jpg?v=1&c=NewsMaker&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF19346E4C5E9CA07326144CAA1790F26C2BE284831B75F48EF45 - http://cache2.asset-cache.net/xc/84246415.jpg?v=1&c=NewsMaker&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF19346E4C5E9CA07326144CAA1790F26C2BE284831B75F48EF45

Trudie Styler: When did Mrs. Sting get so old? Her appearance prompted me to do a Google search. Turns out she's looked old for a long time.
http://cache3.asset-cache.net/xc/84248428.jpg?v=1&c=NewsMaker&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF19346E4C5E9CA073261FC6EC14335F8D37CE30A760B0D811297 - http://cache3.asset-cache.net/xc/84248428.jpg?v=1&c=NewsMaker&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF19346E4C5E9CA073261FC6EC14335F8D37CE30A760B0D811297

The Whatever:

Sandra Bullock: Nice to see Sandra again, but I really had no comment on her appearance.
http://cache2.asset-cache.net/xc/84249843.jpg?v=1&c=NewsMaker&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF19346E4C5E9CA07326102A37FCC1A4E1479284831B75F48EF45 - http://cache2.asset-cache.net/xc/84249843.jpg?v=1&c=NewsMaker&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF19346E4C5E9CA07326102A37FCC1A4E1479284831B75F48EF45

Drew Barrymore: I didn't know what to make of Drew. You?
http://cache1.asset-cache.net/xc/84248288.jpg?v=1&c=NewsMaker&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF19346E4C5E9CA073261BAFB5F6072142BE6E30A760B0D811297 - http://cache1.asset-cache.net/xc/84248288.jpg?v=1&c=NewsMaker&k=2&d=17A4AD9FDB9CF19346E4C5E9CA073261BAFB5F6072142BE6E30A760B0D811297

I've only gone through about 4,000 photos on Getty Images. Any other thoughts?

Bang on Kramer.
I agree about Cameron Diaz's roots, however, love her hair otherwise. The styling was very current in terms of the type of curl, and with her, I'm always just thrilled when she looks like she ran a brush through it.

Great job Kramer; thanks.  I have to ask:  Could Drew Barrymore's hair get any bigger?

Kramer, my hat's off to you. Thanks! I so agree that Rhona Mitra's hair was the nicest surprise, though the majority of length is fake. Maybe she got around to reading the acute disappointment some expressed about her haircuts on this board. Hmmm... Bob

First, thanks Kramer for all the links! Nice work.

Another awards show, another batch of disappointments. I'm not going to bother commenting on individuals, but will just say that no one's hairdo on Kramer's list or on the pre-awards show really impressed me. Most styles either angled toward pretty but flat and bland, or were pulled back tight (thus neutralizing the hair as an asset at all) or were pulled back in some sort of weird loose sideways bun, as if the hair were being punished for something it did wrong.

This probably sounds (and is) a bit too mean and generalized, but all I could think as I looked at pictures and videos is, where did all the glamorous hair go? What happened to all the pretty, full special event styles with curls and waves, or just some height and body? Where's the dazzling hair to match the dazzling dresses and the dazzling purses and the dazzling occasion itself?

I'm sure many will disagree, and again, I'm not saying none looked pretty. Many did. Just more boring than I'd hope for a major Hollywood glamour event.

"Evan Rachel Wood: Thank God the white makeup/black hair Marilyn Manson experiment appears to be over. She's got a great smile."

Why is this a good thing :| She looks plain and I can't tell her apart. To an awards show like that, that kind of look would really stand out.

This really annoys me actually, given the lack of celebrities that have anything resembling a "goth" look, or any kind of subculture-influenced or edgy look really. If we're going to be bombarded with these people constantly through the media there could at least be a little more diversity amongst them, given it's only one person it seems a little selfish for someone to be so relieved one of the few that looked a bit different to the others to have become bastardised :/

And I agree with Curly, though he's making the same kind of point I did in a different way. I don't give a shoot about uninteresting celebrities dressing up all faux-fancy, I just like interesting hair and that's often where you see it.

I also agree with Rosalie. I'm not really interested in celebrities, as such, either: only their hair. We might say the world of celebrities is a microcosm for the world at large: we don't personally know these people and so are free to state our honest opinions without the fear of hurting their feelings.

Re: Ms. Wood: You apparently like goth. It doesn't do anything for me. I think she conformed to Marilyn Manson's demands or requests. I thought it made her look like hell. Now it's gone. Now I like it. It's that simple.

Re: You and fat and others who are bored with celebrities' hair: Go to another site where you won't be so bored. Please. Last time I checked this was "Celebrity Hair Talk."
