Someone in my hair washing question below suggested using oils, jojoba was mentioned. Where would I buy these oils? Are there different oils for different types of hair? Does it weigh your hair down. I have fine hair but a lot of it, so it tends to get big but at the same time gets weighed down easily with heavy products. How do you use the oil? I was thinking since I wash at night and just rinse in the morning that maybe I could use it at night, leave in all night and rinse out in the morning, would that work. TIA

I believe that was me who was talkin about the oils. I got my jojoba oil at the local natural food store. It is by Desert Essence. It was 11.50 for 4 oz. Yeah, its kinda expensive but its worth it for me and it lasts quite a while. Other oils are cheaper.
My hair is poofy with lots of volume but gets weighed down super easily. With jojoba it really depends on how much you use. Other oils you could look into are grapeseed(i think this is lighter), olive(heavier), coconut. There are plenty others but i don't know much about them. I picked up jojoba because i had heard that it is the closest thing to your natural oils. I apply a little bit every day. I don't wash it out right away. Its more like a leave in thing for me. If you try it on a regular day and its just not working for you, you could use it as a warm oil treatment in the shower instead. HTH:)

I use monoi oil, I buy it online. A little tiny bit goes a long long long way. I have butt length hair and a little spot in my palm the size of a quarter does all my hair from the ears down!!! I put it on after washing and reapply on the very ends every day whether I wash or not.
A small bottle is about seven or eight bucks online and lasts me about three months.

oh yeah, you could also look into almond oil, i've heard good things about it.
about the mineral oil, i'm not saying it won't work but i think i heard that it can build up on hair, not sure though.

When you do use the oil be careful not to apply it directly to your scalp. It's best to apply it to the ends of your hair, but if you want to use it all over then be sure to keep it at least two inches away from your scalp. If you don't it can turn into a greasy mess!

Another great option, especially if you have really dry hair and dry scalp is Dr. Haushka's Neem Hair Oil. You wet your hair, apply throughout your hair and massage into your scalp. Leave on for about 20 minutes and wash your hair with shampoo. It is a heavy oil so you definitely need to wash it thoroughly with shampoo. The results are amazing. It really improves the condition of your hair as well as your scalp. Use about once a week.

Karrinne, is your hair fine? Blond, like your avatar? Just wondering, because I did a Google search on Monoi Oil, and it sounds like it smells wonderful! I love coconut scent. I'd like to try some, but I'm wondering if it'd be too heavy for my hair, which is somewhere on the fence between normal and fine.

I'm suspicious since it's a Hawaiian product, and I think of native Hawaiians as having thick, dark hair.

I see the Monoi Oil websites recommend its use as a tanning oil as well! I didn't know people still that! Yow!

Thanks!
