I have been coloring my hair blonde for many years myself with good results.  Recently though the top part of my hair got quite dark as did the underneath part.  I decided to add some highlights to lighten it up and they came out good for the most part but there was alot of brassiness throughout.  I bought Clairol Second Nature deposit only color in Medium Ash Blonde and protein filler and did the root part of my hair and tried to leave out most of the shaft and ends of my hair as they are quite blonde.  It came out good but now a week later I see the warmth coming back out.

I was wondering if I went with a Dark Ash Blonde if that would cover it up better.  Also I was wondering if there was a product or anything I could use to make the color last longer.  I don't like the blue shampoo as it turns my light blonde part grayish.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

which volume developer did you use? I read one page ( http://paynesbeautysupply-salon.stores.yahoo.net/secnatnolcol.html - here ) that said that if you use Clairol Second Nature with 10 vol, it's semi, but if you use it with 20 vol, it's permanent.

I used the 20 vol.  I left it on longer than required also.

I've used Goldwell Colorance about 3-1/2 months ago and I still have about 70% of the color left. I bought it on Ebay, it's a bit on the expensive side (from $25-30 with developer), but depending on the length of your hair you can get a couple or more uses (my hair is top of breast length and I got two uses). Professional hair color usually holds better, although it's more expensive you get your money's worth and it's not hard to use (usually it's 1 part dye and 2 part developer, but always follow the brand's recommendation).

As for shampoo, buy one that is sulfate free. I use Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner (bought at skintore.com - they always have sales of about 20% so be on the look out). They're a bit on the expensive side also, but just a little goes a really long way, I've had mine for at least 3 months now and have only used half the bottle. There's also a line called Pureology that they sell at Target (I don't know where you live but, it might be easier to find).

Hope this helps and good luck with your hair!
Su

P.S. Always buy 1 or 2 shades lighter than the color you actually want (believe me, I learned that the hard way). Also, make sure you do a strand test first!
