( im sure lots of ppl have this problem) anyway, sometimes my hair looks really great, shiny, soft and silky the day after Ive washed it. sometimes it doesnt! and I think that I do the same thing every time I wash it.. so how can this be? I use a conditioner that I leave in for like 2 minutes and then rinse it out at first with warm water (normal temp , not hot) then before ending I rinse it with really cold water (ive heard this is good for making it shine) what do i do wrong? and why does it look really nice sometimes? I also use an after conditioner spray.

That's natural. Not every day can be a good hair day. I wish I knew why. Hair is natural, and just like everything natural, it has good and bad days.
There are more factors affecting it than your shampooing and conditioning and care. Your diet, the weather, how you did or did not toss and turn in your sleep last night, is the conditioner building up some...
I could go on forever!

It's frustrating, that's for sure. Weather--specifically the air's moisture content almost single-handedly determines what my hair will look like on a given day. Hair, especially dry or damaged hair, tends to take on moisture from the surrounding air, which means that after you've styled it carefully and leave the house it reverts back to its natural shape because of humidity. I blow my naturally wavy hair straight and while it looks stellar in the winter--shiny, smooth and soft--it gets downright nasty in the summer. If I step out into a hot July morning, a foggy April afternoon or just after a good dousing rain my hair curls up and stays that way. I've learned to just wear it back throughout the summer since it's not worth my time fighting its natural texture. Unfortunately living in Michigan means that if you want the weather to change just wait five minutes. It makes for very difficult hair days!

yes, Ive noticed the weather makes a big difference. if I go out when its like rainy or if its dampness in the air, my hair goes fuzzy and so on. Ive heard ppl talk about over conditioning.. maybe its better to not use that much and just rely on that it will look good the day after youve slept with it.

Hmm. That's funny. My hair is better in the summer. The dry indoor air of winter dries my hair out. It's OK at home because I run humidifiers constantly, but at work... yuck.

Consider yourself lucky Traci! Summer humidity is a real force to be reckoned with when you've got big frizzy hair. There are days when I can barely get my hair into a ponytail. But your hair is fine (right?) and I think when it comes to humidity that can be a good thing. I had a college roommate whose hair was very fine and would go absolutely flat in sticky weather. Strange how the same atmospheric phenomenon can have completely opposite effects on two heads of hair!
