Hiya...I'll take a stab since no one has responded yet...
I believe that the joico k-pak is a protein deep conditioner. Protein treatments can be important for growing long strong hair.
I just purchased and tried Aveda's Deep Penetrating Hair Revitalizer today. Feels good so far. Using jojoba oil to light condition afterwards.
I would say that a protein treatment leaves your hair feeling strong rather than "silky" if that makes sense...

it's weird though. my cousin said she notice her hair grew fast.she used the shampoo, conditioner and deep conditioner. my cousin has no reason to lie. i can't see just using a hair care line making hair grow fast. i'll have to ask her more about it. it had to been awhile back. she has very long hair for awhile. the other time she cut it was before her wedding back in 2000. it was still long even then. i just talk to her for a minute when i heard she was going to cut her hair.

do they work, and for how much ? I really need something that wil fortify the hair. Silk = fragile.

Hair growth is related to nutrition, hormones and genes.
Keeping hair healthy and strong aids hair growth because you aren't losing as much through damage.
Perhaps when your cousin bought these products, she started "caring" about her hair more and took better care and noticed it more. I'm sure the condition of her hair improved!
There are no "silver bullet"/product line/pill/etc to make fast growing, long, strong, gorgeous hair. Patience and maintenance are key!
If you are missing adequate protein from your diet and/or hair care routine, the initial results of using a protein pack will be considerable.
Good luck! Summertime, hair usually grows faster - so enjoy it while it lasts for our Northern Hemisphere folks!

I use a homemade "protein treatment" before &/or after exposure to intense sun, heat and cold. For whatever reason, the hair shaft feels fortified and stronger.
It is an old recipe in wide circulation. No idea who invented it but many thanks to that person!!
Hair Fortifying Pack
2 egg yolks 1 tsp olive oil (or coconut oil - my preference) 3 tsp honey
Mix up all the ingredients in a non-metal bowl. Apply to dry hair, saturating each strand. Plaster hair to the head. Cover head with a thin plastic shower cap or plastic wrap. Leave for 1 - 2 hours. Shampoo off in luke warm water (to prevent the egg from setting). Then you can apply conditioner if you normally do so. Finish with a cold water rinse.
It is pretty cheap to make using stuff that you have around the house. A little messy but worth it. If it works for you than you have a cheap and effective protein treatment. If not, you are not seriously out of pocket.
Best wishes
