Hello!  I find that whether I get my hair done at the salon (which I do about 98% of the time), or do it myself by purchasing professional color at the beauty supply store, I almost always feel that my red color is uneven.

A little background on my hair:  My natural hair color is a level4/5 dark brown, some greys, and I color it a medium auburn/red shade (level 6).  My hair is very long (almost to tailbone) and is in relatively good condition.

Getting back to the problem:  The crown always seems to be much redder than the the mid-shaft and ends, which are more of a medium brown tone, with some reddish hints, but nowhere near as red as the top of the head.

Why is this happening, and what can be done to make it an even red color all over?

So frustrating...

Thanks in advance for your advice!

This is because at the root there is new hair growth (virgin hair) the mid lengths and ends have colour already on the hair, so if you think about it the colour being applied needs to penetrate through months of colour build up. I would recommend for next time to use a clarifying shampoo for a few weeks before you are next due at the salon, or ask them to use a clarifying shampoo before colouring. Also Ideally they should be apply colour to the mid lengths and ends first then applying to the root area last.

I hope this helps a little.

Karen
