I have SUPER thick hair! Lots and lots of hair on my head! lol. Now when I straighten my hair the shorter layers, kind of curl at the bottom, and it just looks too puffy or something and it just looks like crap. I was wanting maybe long layers, so it doesn't "poof" so much at chin length. Because, I want my hair to grow long. But what do I do to get them? Will just having my hair grow out for a while give me long layers? (if I don't continue to get shorter layers)  or would I have to go to the salon and get something special done? I posted a pic, don't know if you can tell or not from it, but I need help!

LOL excuse me looking like crap, but see here, how at the sides its puffy, this is my problem.

I don't think it looks that bad at all - at least not that puffy.  In my opinion, I think you should cut it to about an inch or so below chin length (in the second pick you see a line to use).  This will make the cut more one length - you can then grow it longer if you want and get any longer layers cut in at that time.  I think this would make it look the best in the "reshaping" time frame.

First off , You have very beautiful hair, but I see what you mean.
would you consider going a bit shorter?

maybe something a little longer than chin length as loveshorthair has already suggested?

good luck!

Thanks for the advice guys! Although, I really don't want to cut my hair just because I've been trying to grow it out for about 3 years, and whenever it gets to an "ugly" stage I run and cut it off, then I can't let it get long! LOL. So do you guys think that if I let it grow out it would look funny? Or is there something I can have the stylist do something special to the ends of each of my layers to make it blend in more?

Yeah love you basically just need to wait for your hair to grow a bit. The weight of the hair should help the puffiness. Maybe try a deep treatment and/or serum as well to help in the meantime.

Thank you Ally. Now I have a question. Do you know what I would tell the stylist once my hair is grown out? To just add more long layers? I need to go in for a trim tomorrow..and I'm freaked out cause I know they are gonna nag me about bleaching my hair haha..but I only want a minimum trim :P

Be firm with the stylist and tell him/her exacly how much you want trimmed.  And, no bleaching.  Your hair is already a pretty color.  If you keep layering it, remember, it will be always layered and if you are looking for a more sleek one length style, you might not ever achieve that.  If it gets too limp you can always revert back to long layers. I'm not sure if this would work for the "puffiness" which, by the way, doesn't seem unattractive to this guy, but you might want to try a "leave in" conditioner to weight that area down tempararily.  It might make it a little greasy, but you can always wash it out if it doesn't work.Smile
