Hi guys/gals.

I've never really dyed my hair myself before but I've always wanted red hair. I know exactly the color I really want for it.....I've dreamed of having it long enough that I've finally just dicided to go for it. Unfortunitly I don't really have the funds to be constantly going to the salon and getting it touched up redyed. I understand that it's kind of an undertaking to do at home but if anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

This is my hair now:

and this is the color I want:

So any advice would be appreciated. I'm a pretty big newbie to things like this.

I was red for nearly 10 years so I know a lot about it.  One thing to know: red is a difficult color to keep in the hair, it fades.  Consequently, you need a superior product especially if you are going to do it yourself.  Please, please, please, do not buy any boxed hair color or any "professional" color from the beauty supply.  You need real professional products.

You will have to decide if you want a red with a little more violet in it, or a little more orange.  I would not recommend a true red, they are very, very artificial.  My best friend in high school had a red that naturally had a violet undertone....beautiful.

Using the superior color (just like the salon you would have visited) will give you superior long lasting results.  You will then need to treat you hair very carefully.  You MUST use a sulfate-free shampoo and deep condition a couple of times a week.
