Hi everyone!
I'm hoping a can get several opinions & experienced hair purchasers.
I think I may have been spoiled. I used to get my extensions done by a stylist I trusted in Southern California. I always had my hair done w/ I-tip style locs. Well I paid $8-$10 per strand, and have worn anywhere from 40-300 strands at a time. So my first install cost me 4 grand.... but the hair LASTED! The hair I have in right now has been on my my head for about 8 months and I can't really tell any difference between now and the day she put it in, except the ends are starting to get thinner from breakage. But I use either a flat iron or curling iron on it at least 4 times a week and wash it every 2-3 days, so I don't think that's too bad. It doesn't tangle much more than my own hair. And it isn't brittle or anything like that.
Well times have changed & I've moved to Texas. I have a baby one the way & really can't afford to pay $1,000 to get another 100 strands of hair from my old stylist. I thought I could just buy "Remi Hair" from anywhere and get the same quality stuff....but I am starting to learn that I can't.
So my question is: Where should I go??? I've hear people talk about Bohyme...but it seems to cheap to be good. Will it last a year? I've never worn a "silk cap" or anything like that... would I need to?
What about this place called Extensions Plus? They seems to be at a price point that makes sense for quality hair. But I'm confused by their website. They don't seem to have very many colors available. Has anyone bought custom hair from them? Does it last?
I've also heard about Russian hair, but my stylist told me once that her hair comes from Indian temples...so I know that is what I want.
Sorry for the very long post!!! Please help! I'm willing to pay a fair price, but I want high quality hair that will last me 8-12 months or more. Thanks for any reccomendations in advance!

Hi. I have worn the Virgin Russian hair before and while it is super expensive, it lasts. It will last you a year or beyond. It is a finer texture hair and is best if you only want to wear straight.
The problem is quality Russian is very rare and I bought from one vendor and got fantastic hair and then when I made a repeat purchase (and paid the same amount) I got screwed and he sent me hair that was not nearly the same quality. I contacted him and he told me I was out of luck. He offered zilch. No returns, no credits, nothing.
It sounds to me what you had before was Virgin Indian which is also nice hair though slightly thicker textured. The important thing is that word "virgin". You want to get that. Remi does not always equate to virgin, cuticle intact hair. You do NOT want any processing or acid baths or silicone coating applied to the hair. Make sure you are getting virgin quality Indian hair and it will last you a year at least with proper care.
I recommend these ladies. Awesome company and fabulous hair. They work with cancer patients very often and design custom wigs so they are great people and really care about hair quality.
They are called World Hair Importers.

Bohyme won't last you a year I think, at least that is my experience, but it is not as expensive as virgin russian for example. I am wearing 3oz of russian -from Krimsa's same vendor I believe- and 3oz of Bohyme and was surprised to see that my Bohyme is behaving a little bit nicer than my russian. It is only my personal experience, and also, my russian is blonde, so has been gently processed. Virgin unprocessed could be a different ball game.
Russian has a thinner strand and I notice that it doesn't like the heat so much and I get a lot of split ends. Not cool for the price I paid, but again, it is MY own routine that wants it, I do use straight iron almost daily.

Yes the Bohyme is nice hair and decent quality but I read online that it is a mixture of European, Asian and Indian hair and it is cuticle stripped. Its still very nice hair and it will last you about 4-6 months with proper care but Im noticing it is somewhat course and it dry out and I need to keep adding more and more conditioner product and now its to the point that I actually leave conditioner on it all the time and it drinks it like water lol.
But I would never say Bohyme is bad hair. It isnt. Its just not virgin. I would say Bohyme is the best., medium quality hair on the market you can find currently and by medium I just mean not virgin hair.

Yes, Krimsa, Bohyme does love conditioner all the time!! But to me, it's really my go to hair. Do you guys wear blonde hair? Because that is definitely another factor to take into account.
If I was a brunette I would certainly try virgin asian hair, virgin indian etc.
It is almost impossible, if you want a very light/light blonde shade to find some virgin hair, & I wear a 22' long install too, so that's another thing...
I'm sure there is some great hair out there, but for me, as a blonde, who likes to use a straightening iron every day almost and shampoos daily as well, Bohyme is at the top my list.
The hair will not last you a whole year however, but the price tag is nicer as well.
One last thing, you might want to look at the http://www.hairtrader.com - www.hairtrader.com , where people sell their own hair. Some have really beautiful hair, but the longer and lighter and healthier you want to go, well the more expensive, usually. This might be your best option though if you're looking for virgin almost unprocessed long + blonde hair. Or brunette for that matter!
Good luck!

Bohyme hair is also reasonably priced so you can keep swapping it out every few months without breaking the bank or feeling like you are getting ripped off. You will always get exactly what you paid for with Bohyme in my opinion.
No I wear brunette hair and I can wear Indian in 1B which is its off black natural color and have it look natural. Im a Caucasian with blue eyes but my natural hair color is a dark brown so I can pull it off.
Also if you get the Indian virgin, you can color it without destroying the quality as its virgin to start with. I dont know about going up to a blond shade however. That probably will shorten the life to lift so much color,
Check out the colored Remy hair on that site I posted to see if that would work out for you. That model is wearing a very light blond and thats Indian hair.
I think it really gets into a compromise. Pay a HUGE sum of money for true virgin Caucasian hair like Russian or else use Indian Virgin which may not match your texture exactly but you will get the long wear, soft tangle free hair.
Virgin=long lasting but probably not lighter shades as easily.

Yep, I agree. I have been wearing bohyme for a while now, and I know what I am getting, I know how to work with it, how to take care of it etc. etc.
Having all this routine down is time consuming when you're playing with new hair. Like I said, I got some virgin russian hair (about 3oz) and it was dyied blonde from a light brown shade I believe. I paid over $600 for the hair and it does not seem to hold as well as Bohyme, again, probably because it was slightly processed to match my hair color.
I am not a fan of indian texture in general, just because it has more body and fluffyness in general and I like the sleek heavy poker straight style better. I believe that Bohyme is mostly asian hair mixed with some indian.
The hairtrader could definitely be a good place to get some virgin that is really light. At this point, with my finances right now, I don't think I'd be ready to splurge, IF the occasion comes. Even on the hair trader, finding exactly the right length, volume and shade can be a gamble. But I remember Rocket22 who had a rather good experience with some hair purchased on the hair trader.
I'll definitely check out the website you mention, thank! I'm always on the hunt!

Hi lostgirl. What we all have discovered is different hair works for different people and what each person is trying to achieve. I personally didn't care for the Bohyme I found it to be dry and a little thicker strand than I like, not as light and fluffy as my own hair (personal opinion only ) but I also think a little goes a long way where as the European does take more to get that really full look... I personally don't want to have to use product and curl it to make it blend with my own hair.
I think if your seriously looking for a year plus install you would have to go European hair. I have bought three times now from hairtrader and if you do your homework you can get some very beautiful hair at not too bad a price.
If you have any questions don't hesitate to pm me
Frenchie: that suck you paid that kind of money and it's not holding up... Very sorry to hear this, but the Bohyme looks stunning on you and it works!! so if it's not broke than don't fix it
Here is a photo of both .. they are both beautiful but have different looks

Ahh excellent comparison shot Rocket! You can clearly see the difference in the European and the Bohyme mixture. Bohyme is a courser hair. I am finding I like the look but not so much the feel. It does have a roughness to it. You can actually see the difference in the European only. It has that silkier look and feel.
Rocket when you get your hair from the "Hairtrader" you need to send it out for wefting correct? Do you have anyone you recommend on that? Thats the only reason I have avoided using the Hairtrader because its the two step process of finding the hair and then getting it wefted. How much length do you loose when its wefted? Thanks.
Oops sorry I missed that you use Protac. My mistake.

Yes Bohyme is much courser than the European, but it does go a long ways! both photos have the same number of wefts but clearly the top is much much thicker... I personally love the feel and ease of the European hair, although I do love the thickness of the Bohyme.. Also I have gotten hair too fine as well. it would take way to many wefts for what I like installed to have as thick of an install as the Bohyme, so needless to say it's a tricky balance that I'm slowely learning
Yes you have to send hair out to be wefted.. I used to send it to EP but guess they no longer are wefting, so talk on the boards is Sam is the go to guy! I think you loose about 1" to 1 1/2"

Great thanks. Okay I might look to see if I can find European hair on the Hairtrader site then. Right now, its between that and buying Indian virgin. I dont think Im going to do any more Bohyme simply because its a little too course in feel for my liking.

Hey Rocket- Good to see you here!... Yeah, bohyme is great for me, so while I am always looking out for options, I always go back to bohyme, or do install with half bohyme/half another type of hair.
The russian isn't bad at all, it is actually the finer texture you're showing on your bottow pic, it is just that for someone who uses a straight iron every day, I think it's taking a toll on the russian hair, because russian has thiner strands, probably more easily damaged by the heat.
If you're gonna leave your hair alone after air dry or blowdry, then it's different. Russian/european would probably be a perfect match.
For me, I need to iron my own hair everyday so the extensions get some heat too.
I could do a comparison shot like you did, and you would see that the thicker asian bohyme is actually more flatering on me, but ONLY because I am going for a poker straight, thick hairstyle.
Clearly when I look at your pics, I like the european much better on you. A mix of both hair types would probably be great for you, to get flufiness + thickness! Oh, and I didn't know you purchased more hair from the hair trader?!!! That's awesome, I would love to hear about this experience, price, pics etc.!

Oh & Krimsa- I wanted to add, Singer has a new technique for wefting your own bulk hair, where you apparently lose a minimal amount for wefting. It uses a special kind of tape, and the result is close to skin weft apparently.
From her Really love it website, here you go:
http://hairweftingtape.com/index.php?main_page=index - http://hairweftingtape.com/index.php?main_page=index
Haven't seen many reviews yet, but could be a great options for people using the hair trader!

Cool but tape scares me a little. I think I want to stick with the traditional sew in. But if I was good with using tape methods, I would try that. I like the longer wear time and security of a sew in.

Yeah i could see if you flat iron your hair daily how you might want the thicker strands, also you will maintain the fullness even with it ironed. If I flat ironed my European every day it would feel much thinner to me.. I like to wash and wear and I don't put that much in (usually 3 oz ) , I don't like to use products or have to curl it to take out the friz.. I always say I'm a lazy extension wearer
The European just works for me! I swear by it!!! but even with the European , I have learned it takes practice to get that right too. but I certainly can see how other hair works for other people it just depends on the needs of the individual. Each kind of hair has it advantages and disadvantages
I did purchase more!! I am going to hair anonymous soon!! I have had great results with hairtrader but still trying to get it even more perfect!!! first batch too fine! yes there is such a thing, even for me...... second, thought was little too frizzy (long story but it wasn't) and third batch is on it's way!!!

Im looking at the hair trader site and there is a lot of nice hair but does that site have any way to put in a "search criteria"? You know like say you only wanted to view hair 22 inches or dark brown?

That hair you are buying looks nice Rocket. I bet that was expensive though. How much length is she cutting off? I think I will just go with some Indian virgin from that World Hair Traders site primarily because the hair that looks very nice on Hair Trader and is the length I need, people are offering like upwards of $1000. I cant go that high lol.

Love that hair Rocket, I hope it's gonna fit on your head perfectly. The shade looks very close to your own color, you might only have to do minor highlights!
Krimsa- I checked out the world hair trader website you mentioned and the blonde shade I saw available for remy hair was 613 (too light for me) and that's all. I think they have a 27 also in another type of hair.
I am normally not tempted by indian hair in general (I prefer asian texture in general) but really the issue for blonde girls like me is to find the right shade. Usually you end up buying a few colors that you mix, blonde is super tricky.
On virgin hair that is as light as what Rocket has purchased, it is easier to lift the color though or do highlights.

Yes the Indian texture is not to everyone's liking. I find Virgin Indian to be very silky and if I flat iron it, it matches my own passably. Brunette shades tend to hide extensions a little better also so you can conceal your own hair on top a little easier if its all dark and uniform. Since you like to flat iron nearly daily, then the Bohyme is your best bet because that Asian hair will hold up to heat better than any texture. That would destroy Indian or European pretty quickly I think.

Yep, that's what's going on with my russian. It's split ends galore lol! The hair is still very pretty though!
I have found this company based in the uk, they sell asian remy, it is really good hair, but the wefting is so so.
It's additional lengths, for anyone interested.
You're so right about darker hair hiding extensions better, with thin, light blonde hair, there is no room for mistake. Especially for like top rows.
I have found that bohyme has a great selection of blonde, not just your typical 613, but some honey blondes, some blonde with lowlights, some darker wheat blonde etc.
In the end, finding the right hair for you is like finding a good pair of jeans. There's no magic bullet, it's all about your hairtstyle, personal preferences, your every day routine/lifestyle etc.
Just like with jeans it's all about your body type lol!
When I find a good pair of jeans, I am in heaven and I buy several pairs lol!

Oh good lord I couldn't afford $1000.00 either . no if you do your homework and search you would be surprised what people will take for their hair, especially if they have had it awhile and for some reason a lot of people make high offers but never come through.. I would go even more broke if I was paying that kind of money and not having it work out, also a normal to semi thick head of hair really only produces 4-5 ounces.. (that is a guess from my experience only).. hey just because they want 1000.00 offer 200.00 or even 150.00 all they can say is no

Yeah, it was my impression too that with the hair trader, you could score some good hair at a reasonable price, BUT you need to do a lot of research and get lucky too!

I see. Okay I will keep looking. I emailed the site asking about a search criteria option like length or color and since they are in the process of changing the site right now, they dont have anything like that. This makes it hard because you are just looking at random adds.

First I would ask if hair is still available. then make sure you get plenty of photos of hair before cut to make sure it's something that would work with your texture.. if hair is already cut make sure you get a photo of the cut ponytail or braid and still get photos of hair prior to cut... My first batch I bought I didn't get photo of the braid and it was a complete mess, he (yes he) shaved his head and the top part of braid was a matted mess, If I had received photo of the braid I wouldn't have bought it, and seller was not helpful at all!!!! ... I could have filed a claim but decided to see if I could make it work.. I had to cut several inches off the top and long story short it turned out to be beautiful hair but shorter than I thought. always and I mean always use paypal!!!!! Never send any money western union or cashiers check... that just screams scam!!!! with paypal if for some reason they don't send it or it's not as described and the seller wont work with you , you can file a claim..
that's pretty much all I have to offer for advice...

All good points Rocket!
As for the hair trader search criterias, yeah, I have found it pretty useless. The thing isn't working, so you do have to spend a whole lotta time on this website. But it's probably worth it anyway, plus I just think there's something great about shopping people's hair lol! It's a good thing if they decide to upgrade the website, it will make it more efficient!

Oh its definitely a FUN site to look through no doubt and I find myself perusing adds for hours if I dont keep an eye on the time. lol.
Good to know Rocket and thanks so much for all of your help with this. I can understand where it might be really scary because you dont always know exactly what you are getting or how it will be prepared from individual sellers cutting their hair.
That is one good thing about just buying pre-made wefts or bulk hair from an established vendor online. Most of the time they will have some kind of return policy. They vary. I found one website that is actually offering a ONE YEAR Guarantee on their virgin Indian.
I thought that was too good to be true so I emailed and they were very hesitant to lay down details. That sent up a red light.
But aside from that, most sites will allow you to immediately return the hair if you dont like the texture or there is a problem.

Thanks to everyone for the tips. Is there a spot on this site where people can review hair sellers? I would be very interested to find out what websites y'all have had good experiences with. My difficulty is that I want to dye the hair a dark red color and I have curly/wavy hair. So if I buy something like Bohyme's wavy texture I'd have to get blonde. Which means it would be bleached, colored, permed hair that I would then color again! YIKES! I might try it once just to see if it will hold up at all. Even if it lasts 2 months I suppose that's not too terribly expensive to maintain...

Just curious, what is the texture of your natural hair? You say curly but I mean is it softer curls or a courser texture? You say you were wearing Indian hair before and that was a good match? I imagine then you have softer, lighter curls? Just curious. Indian hair is still pretty soft but yet not quite as soft and silky as European. Its in the middle. Its slightly more durable especially when its virgin.
