I know I may have asked this before but I will ask again (I couldn't remember the responses)
1. Has anyone taken GNC Ultranourishair before? Did your face break out? My face broke out a few weeks after I started taking it. I stopped and it went away, I just barely started my second bottle when I stopped and thinking of taking them again but I am afraid that my face will break out again.
2. I have read (on this board) a lot about horsetails, msm?, silicas (supplements) that people take, I want to try some of those too or would like to learn more if possible. Can someone take time to help me? I want to try other supplements that aren't very expensive that works!
Help!
ps.... I chopped off about 2 inches (looked more when I compared my old pic with my new) I want my hair to grow faster and healthier. Or get to the same length as before... I am really upset that I had to cut the dry ends off!

Hello CG -
All I can tell you is what I take, and how I feel it's helped me. I take 2 grams of MSM a day, and have been since January, so ~ 6 months. I think this is a good website to learn more about MSM - www.arthritis-msm-supplements.com
I have seen my hair and nails really take a turn for the better. Stronger, better growth in both, my nails aren't thin anymore, and chip a great deal less. My hair seems stronger - I got an inch of growth last month. I also take 1 g of biotin, a multi-vitamin, extra B, EPO, a fish oil capsule, and extra C. I took silica for about 3 months - and am taking 3 months off - I think good silica is harder to find. (Anyone with a source - please post it). I'll be starting it back up in a couple of weeks.
I also try to eat 100 grams of protein a day, which I think does as much for my hair as the supplements.
Hope this helps. Gren

hi Grenwich,
Thanks for responding... the MSM that you buy, can you get those in a drugstore? I can''t believe how much you take and it must get expensive. Everything that you mentioned, are those available locally? Thanks again!!!
GNC Ultra has 500mg of MSM, 1mg of Silica, 1200mcg of Biotin - are these not enough? Maybe I will get the fish oil too.

Hi CrazyGirl,
I take GNC Ultranourishair (only one pill per day) and Silica/horsetail herb (one pill per day). The combination (along with regular one-a-day multivitamin) helps keep my hairloss down to a very low amount, which is important to me. At this level of supplementation, I have not noticed increased rate of growth, just the average 6 inches per year. Also, I have not been experiencing breakouts recently, though I am prone to them (darn rosacea).
You may want to begin lightly oiling the ends of your hair to keep them from getting "dry." This may help you avoid the urge to trim anytime soon, and may ultimately help you to grow your hair longer (if that is your wish).

I buy most of my supplements at WalMart, or CVS. I know folks who take 6 grams of MSM a day, but that is also for some further health issues. I take fish oil for the omega fatty acids, which help lower cholesterol and are "heart healthy". I don't know if does anything for my hair. =) Monica - EPO is Evening Primrose Oil. I'd encourage you to do a search on the web, and draw your own conclusions. I've been taking it for several years now, and am most pleased with the results. bmail me should you want further details.
Cheers! Gren

I started taking supplements 2 1/2 yrs ago after I had allll my hair cut off...up over my ears...weight-line...OMG...one of the hardest cuts to grow out. I was complaining two days after the cut...my mother-n-law was commenting that she needed a trim..gets it trimmed about every 3 weeks..grows so fast..etc. (and I must add I have the most wonderful mother-n-law one could have) anyway...I asked her why her hair grows so fast. She has Osteo and takes calcium for that...so I picked up a bottle...after about 2 months began to see a difference...in growth rate as well as thickness. I'd permed sinced high school and since that cut I've kept it straight..it's very healthy..looks best it has ever. Anyway..sorry to babble a bit off topic. So I kept researching...added silica..(one morning, one night) calcium the same (one a.m. one p.m.) for overall general health take two 400 i.u.s natural vit. E, one women's multi, one 100mg. b-6...add in the silica and the calcium. In March I started taking HF37 and I'm absolutely amazed and thrilled at the results. I have to keep cutting/filing my nails down ...never had to do that before...they are strong..grow so fast. And my hair...I'm averaging about 1" a month now..texture, thickness..overall hair health is hard to explain. Is like someone else's healthy hair on MY head!!!
Sorry if any typos...I'm at work now. So I'd better get to it. If I've not been clear on something lemme know. All things don't work for all people..start slowly after much research and see what works for you...don't jump into all them at once. Wish you the best!

I have a short bob that I'm trying to grow out of, and I always come to the long hair forum for advice. After reading you guys talk about vitamins, and after doing some research over the internet, I went out and bought some vitamins. I'm not sure if I'm taking the proper amounts, but this is what I take: _ Biotin 1000mcg _ Silica 520mg _ Cod liver oil _ MSM 1000mg _ A multivitamin I haven't seen any results yet (it's only been a couple of days). I didn't spend much on them, even though I got them from a very good vitamin company. One thing is for sure, I am done with getting my hair cut short and then regretting it a couple days later!! If anyone knows of something else that is beneficial to the hair, please let me know. Thanks.

I have a question about Hairtopia, I went to the site and didn't realize there's different types. What would be the best one? Also, you can take that and Viviscal? What would eb the difference between those 2? Thank you.

Although the page may seem a little confusing, there are really only 2 basic HairTopia plans. There is the Basic which is one bottle of vitamins/minerals and two bottles of amino acids for a 30 day program and there is the Hairtopia Total which is 1 bottle of vitamins, 2 bottles of aminos and 1 bottle of herbal booster.
You can get 30, 60, 90 day plans of either the Basic or the Total. You can also buy just the vitamins or just the aminos or just the herbals. You can also get a deal if you buy the HT w/ Viviscal.
Bottom line there is a Basic plan w/out the herbal and the Total w/ the herbal.
BTW HairTopia is very similar to H37 but has some extra benefits and features not in 37. I had a hard time taking the H37 although I tried for 3 months, because 37 comes in large tablets and I can't swallow easily. Hairtopia is a small capsule that is relatively easy to swallow and can be opened into juice. It also metabolizes very quickly and doesn't take as long to break down as a tablet might. I got niacin flushing pretty badly from 37 although it helped my hair and nails. HairTopia has a new improved type of niacin that doesn't cause me to flush and that is nice since I would put off taking my 37 because of the flushing and then I would have to try and catch up at the end of the day, which is not the best time to take hair growth supplements. HairTopia has MSM and several hair growth herbs that are not in the 37. I get the same, if not better results and don't worry that I am going to choke on the pills.
It is really a matter of preference for capsules vs tablets and niacin flush or not but ultimately very similar programs.
Hope that helps.

I wasnt aware MSM was good for the hair.I used to take MSM for my knee joints, back when i was running. My chiropracter actually prescribed these.
Are these good on the hair also?
