OK so let me first start off by saying, yes I am an IDIOT! I should have gotten this professionally done but I was so sure this would be a breeze to do on my own. Lesson learned!

I'll give a brief history of my hair. I'm 25 years old, my natural hair color is dark/dirty blond or mousy brown. I've been dying my hair for over a decade and have been bleaching my hair myself for the last few years (I've been using L'Oreal Super Blond Lightening Kit) My hair hasnt been brassy at all, it's been legit Gwen Stefani platinum blonde. Lately I've been wanting to change and decided that it was time to try brunette.

I honestly did have intentions of having it professionally done, but I kept backing out because I wasnt sure I wanted to make such a drastic change because I knew once I did, I could probably never go back to platinum. So after using L'Oreal's "color finder" on their website, a few color options were selected for me.

I didnt think it would be wise to go immediately from platinum to brunette, so I chose a color that was somewhere in the middle. I chose a color that was pretty close to my original hair color, which is a dark ash blonde. I'm kicking myself so hard right now, because even as I was selecting the color I thought "Gee I hope this doesnt turn my hair grey since my hair is completely stripped of all color to begin with.." But I did it anyway and sure enough my whole head is GREY now. A very dark cigarette ash grey with maybe a hint of blue? I dont even know! But it's a disaster.

I used a permenant hair color (Chai Latte..L'Oreal Feria) What can I do now? I'm sure I'm going to be yelled at for asking this question (and I deserve it) but I'm going to ask anyway. Is there any way I can fix this at home? I know that's how I got into trouble to begin with and I'm sure I'm going to end up at the salon anyway but now that it's darker, I was wondering if a box of some kind of warm toned light brown would help at all. I really don't have hundreds of dollars to correct this, but I also don't want to do any more damage. Also whether I have this fixed professionally or at home, when is the soonest I'd be able to have this colored again? I only did it a few hours ago but it's really bad. I can't leave the house without a hat. Thank God it's winter!

Please someone tell me I'll have normal looking hair again! Any/all advice is much appreciated.

If u put a semi colour on thats got some warm tones in it that will counteract the grey in your hair and u will end up with a nice brown,with no grey.

a dark golden blonde would fix your hair. anything that says golden or warm on the box or has a G with the numbers. Also using a clarifying shampoo or dandruff shampoo will help pull out the gray depending on how bad it is. If you use a brown it might come out way too dark and blochy i would start with a dark gloden blonde to be safe and give it a good bass color if you wanted to go darker after that then you would be fine! good luck! I did this not too long ago myself. They also have have gold hair fillers at Sally's Beauty supply that will help.

The same thing happened to my mom just a few days ago! There are a few things I think you should do.

First of all, FORGET about dying your hair any other color or using a toner. You'll just be piling a bunch of chemicals onto your hair. The way I imagine it is, imagine you put a warm hair color on your hair. The warm hair color will either have red, orange, yellow or golden undertones. Since your hair is probably really porous, it will pick up the undertones of the new hair color. Imagine you put a golden hair color on top of the grey. You will have greyish-golden hair. I can just imagine what a horrible color it would turn into!

What I did to my mom's hair was I made a special mixture and applied it to her hair. She left it on for about 30 minutes. The mixture contained:
- clarifying shampoo
- a drop of liquid dish soap
- 20 volume peroxide
- a drop of deep conditioner

I stirred this mixture and applied it to her hair. She had made the exact same mistake as you and ended up with the exact same hair color. This helped lift a lot of the blue-grey tint out. Her hair still has some, but it just looks like a light ash blonde as opposed to weird looking grey-blue hair.

If your hair is really healthy and not damaged at all, you can add some bleach to the above mixture. This will lift your hair A LOT and will most likely get rid of the grey-blue tint.

I'm not guaranteeing that your hair will be back to normal, but this will help a lot. I am really against you coating your hair with more chemicals (dye, toner, etc) because I think that will just make your hair worse.
