I'm really trying to get this look:

Obviously not doing such a good job:

I recently cut my hair short, so I'm not used to styling it at all (lol)

This last cut I had the hair stylist cut my hair so it would support this look.  But I can't get the hair to look the same or even close.

My hair either looks like "straw/wirey hair" or else if I try too hard it then gets dry looking and kind of bushy. Her hair looks so smooth, yet piecey.

I'm not really good at blow drying a style, and I'm not honestly sure if a blowdryer is needed here or if this is shaped from wet hair?

My hair is naturally wavy. So I have been using a really strong gel if I style my hair wet. Otherwise I blow dry it kind of straight and then use a ceramic flat iron to straighten it.

The strongest Gel I have found is REALLY strong and sticky.. , the other gels just don't help at all.

If I straighten it dry, then I've used spiking paste to piece it a bit but it always looks dry ( I don't mean dry as in not-wet, I mean dry looking, very little shine)

What do you think Pink's stylist uses on her hair to be able to shape it like that, have it look piecey, and yet shiny and not dry or wild?

Any specific brands of products I should consider?

Should I first blow dry it straight and work it or do something from wet (my hair is easier to manage wet, but I have to be careful about it getting too wavy on me since I'm not naturally straight) .  When I've used gel I usually get it as close as I can then use a cool dryer to dry it.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated!!! :)

Thanks in advance

I would use some type of hair wax or pomanade. Also use low heat if any when trying to achieve this style..

I like to use American Crew on most styles

Thanks guys! I just discovered Axe Messy Paste too, it's not for the 'Pink' look above of course -  but it's kind of fun too. In fact, probably the quickest hair style ever lol.

Re: Pomade:   is this only for DRY hair? Or can it also be used on damp hair like wax/paste ?

Im not a fan of gel, but I love wax/paste. Messing up my hair with it adds a lot of volume, then it can be shaped/reshaped afterwards. I used a basic drugstore brand (pantene sculpting wax), works awesome.

you need to blowdry all your hair forward, and dont put ANY thing in it untill it is dry, then since you have thin hair you need to use a MAT pomade, I would try to get one thats not too creamy, more pasty, and DONT use too much!

after you put that in all over kinda move it side to side to see how it would look best....you may need too flat iron the front or use a padle brush while drying.

thanks, I've actually had some luck (not exactly the same look), with using a hard gel while my hair is wet, and combing it kind of straight and to the front/side.   Then when it dries I just mess it up a bit or use a bit of pommade so it doesn't look like "straw"
