Hi everyone! I am new to this site and have found it to be very helpful on so many levels. i think that it is great that there are online communities like this one where individuals can share knowledge and expertise.
My sister got hair extensions for the second time and they look great! I have always wanted long, full hair and recently have been considering following in my sisters footsteps. After much research I am now more confused than ever as to what kind of extensions might be the right ones for me. I am hoping with your help that I might find some direction in this online community and make a more educated choice . 
So here is my deal. I am 33 years with very fine hair that I color every 6-8 weeks as I am very grey.  I also have an oily scalp that forces me to wash my hair every day. if I do not wash my hair every day I tend to lose more hair than if i did. Currently I use Nioxin level 4 shampoo and scalp treatment as well as their foam scalp treatment and follicle booster
Having fine hair I am very concerned with the level of damage and hair loss I can attain by getting extensions but it sounds like there have been so many developments in this area that I thought I would give it a try. What kind of hair extensions would be recommended for someone like me? Am I even a candidate? Thank you for taking the time to read and provide your expertise. If you are trying to get your hair to grow back thicker, I would be VERY careful when selecting a hair extension method, if at all. When it comes to extensions, since your hair is so thin, the added weight and pulling (associated with styling the hair) can cause the remaining hair to be pulled out as well. This will ultimately leave you with even thinner hair.
Your goal should be to get those hair follicles fed so they can produce healthy hair. Adding extensions to hair whose follicles are underfed will increase the chances of the hair falling out and stunting the regrowth. Try using anything that tingles on your scalp as this will get the blood to those follicles.
Some of our readers have mentioned adding cayenne pepper to hair shampoos or conditioners (it only seems to "tingle" just after washing, when the pores are nice and open) as well as daily vitamins so the blood that is feeding those follicles is nutrient packed.
Meanwhile, you might consider ponytail hairpieces or 3/4 wigs for added length while your hair thickens. Thank you for the advice. I was thinking of switching to Renee Furterer as I have heard that their thinning hair treatment is very good. Have you heard about them? |

I might be late on this, but go to http://www.hairextensions101.com - www.hairextensions101.com for lots of posts on different hair extension methods.
I have fine hair and my hair is growing very nicely with taped/glued in wefts. The weight of the wefts is evenly distributed on the scalp, so you don't get a lot of pulling (unless you wear them for two months!). They are easy to install and easy to remove, but if you don't do it right, you can rip your hair out. You need patience and practice.
I would dissuade you from getting individuals or fusion -- to much weight hanging from your scalp. ------------- Love clip-ins and tape! |

im familiar with bonding wefts, and i think they are a safe method on your natural hair. i, and alot of my friends use this method and have had no problems. as long as you use the right removal products. you cant even feel them on your head! i buy my wefts glue and removal products from http://www.buyhair.co.uk - www.buyhair.co.uk because its really cheep :) i get a friend to help me put them in! hope this helps Michaela x ------------- :) |
