Ok so Friday morning I had light brown, almost a chesnut, colored hair that was a shoulder length bob.  I'm naturally a dark blonde and have fine straight hair, but had gone reddish brown for the winter. My last color was five months ago.

On Friday, I was supposed to see my regular hairstylist for a highlight and trim.  Unfortunately she was sick so they asked if I would mind seeing someone else.  I figured it would be ok since they would have the exact colors she used on my hair last year. Not the case!  It turned out horrible, bright yellow and orange (I asked her to use a couple colors).  And she turned my long bob into a short stacked look, which wouldn't have been so bad but it wasn't even done well.  On top of being yellow and orange the hightlights had bled badly.

I called a friend that recommended a salon that had been able to fix her color when she had a bad experience with a home die job.  I went in to that salon yesterday, Saturday morning.  She recommended re-doing the highlights and then putting darker glaze over the rest to completely get rid of the yellow and orange.  She did a great job correcting the haircut but I still don't like the color.  The dark is a dark brown and the highlights are very blond, a little ashy. There is just too much contrast it makes the blond almost look gray.

My hair was very healthy to start with so it is ok so far with the two dye jobs and she recommended using Redkin Extreme to keep it that way.

My question is, is there a way to make the highlights darker so that there won't be such a contrast?  Do I need to go back to the salon or is there something I could do at home?  I think if I could make the highlights brown or even match the dark glaze it would be better at least that would look like I went brunette over a botched color.  I know it will fade and probably not be as bad but I don't even want to go out like this.  Please help!

Yes you can get your highlights the right color and to blend better. I do suggest you go to a professional. You just need your highlights toned and you will be fine.Be careful about who you go to.Referals are best when it comes to finding a stylist. My website is http://www.on-the-strand.com - www.on-the-strand.com if your in my area.Good luck!
