I need a little direction in removing some unwanted "brassiness" from my hair.
To give you a little background on my situation:
I recently stripped blue-black dye from my hair. At the time that I stripped the color my hair was still black (level 1) with a very apparent blue undertone. I believe my hair is either a level 6 (medium blond) or level 7 (dark blond) currently with a combination of violet and possibly orange or golden tones. In shade my hair appears to be "ashen" with a touch of either gold or orange; however in bright sun it appears to be orange-gold. I am simply wanting to tone this to an "ashen" color. I honestly don't care about going up or down some levels if needed, I just simply want to tone out this orange-gold. Below are photos of me in natural light and shade..

And this would be the color that I am basically trying to achieve: http://imgur.com/iDHOk.jpg - http://imgur.com/iDHOk.jpg
I am not scared of my hair appearing "drab." My natural color is a very mousy medium blond, which I think looks fine with my pale cool skin and pale eyes. So frankly I'd be happier with more "drab" color to my hair then warmer.
My current plan is to buy either a dark blond or medium blond hair dye with a blue-violet tone and use a very mild deposit only developer (10 Volume) to correct the warm tone in my hair since I believe it to be a bright gold color.
If anyone has any suggestions on what would be my best course of action please let me know. Thanks in advance for everyone's help! :)

P/S - Seeing a professional is not a possibility. Besides the issue of cost, I have also had splendid results with doing it myself; so I am really not interested in going to a professional. I just want a few suggestions from a few people on this forum. Thanks!
