Which is the best skin care cream to protect from sun? Also..........what is acne, how does it occur and what is the best type of treatment currently? Acne results from the obstruction and inflammation of the sebaceous glands, and it affects 80% of the population. Acne typically begins in adolescence with hormonal changes. However, there are many older individuals who suffer from adult onset acne. Q: WHAT IS PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY? A: Photodynamic therapy is a process by which a photosensitizing agent (Levulan) is applied to your skin. It is then activated with a specific wavelength of light, which “turns on” the topical solution. Levulan has been used for the treatment of a variety of different skin conditions, and it is approved by the FDA for the treatment of precancerous lesions and sun damaged skin. Q: HOW IS PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY WITH LEVULAN DIFFERENT FROM ACCUTANE? A: Prior to Photodynamic Therapy, the best available treatment option for cystic acne was Accutane. However, Accutane is associated with many systemic side effects including birth defects, liver abnormalities, mood swings, depression, and virtually all patients experience eye dryness and night vision changes.
