can you cover plastic warp over permanent color while processing?? to penetrate better? or is it better to make the color breathe oxygen?

please help with this! some stylist cover plastic wrap over permanent color to process faster and penetrate deeper..i feel the color process better and evenly when not covered with a wrap..but they disagree....

what do you think?

I don't know the answer to this, I'm not a pro, but I don't think it needs to breathe - this is only based on my own hair.  When I dye mine I often put it up in a bun to keep it from drying out so much while the dye is on, it seems to work fine and I have not noticed any unevenness on the hair that was in the inside.
