Hi
I was wondering if anyone could help me - i Have a medium length brown bob and want to create the look of having grown out golden highlights and keep the roots darker.
Something like this for instance: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_ALk-UokBqGo/S9sAfSCTEUI/AAAAAAAAAyA/l0IxsBTVpKw/s1600/chung2.jpg

I am reluctant to go professionally as a friend of mine tried asking for the same look a few years ago and ended up paying for full head highlights and not getting what she wanted at all. i'd much rather risk making a mess of it myself than paying for professionals to not give me what i want.

So, has anyone had this but without fully highlighting and letting it naturally grow out? I don't want to look blonde at all really.

Does anyone have an idea of the technique of highlighting hair in this way?

Would be nice to hear from you.

xxx

The technique is called balayage. The way it works is the highlights are hand painted on using a brush and the result is natural looking highlights that grow out without obvious roots. You will be able to achieve the look that you want because the technique allows you control where the highlights start. I personally get balayage highlights myself. I have light brown hair and get blonde highlights. It grows out so naturally and I only have to get my hair highlighted twice a year! Here is a very helpful link- http://sarahpotempa.com/2010/08/26/celebrity-hairstyling-trends-balayage/
