Hi,
I am looking for suggestions of hairstyles that would suit me. My hair is currently a couple of inches past my shoulders, a bit layered, and I have been growing out a side fringe, which is now almost chin length. It is naturally straight, and quite fine, but quite thick (as in fine hairs but lots of them). I find it quite difficult to get much volume in it, because of the texture, however I have it cut. I am 24, 5"5 and fairly slim. I was thinking about going short, but not sure a) if it would suit me, and b) how easy it would be to keep it looking good given my hair type. I don't particularly want a bob, as I had my hair in a fairly layered, chin length bob last year, and although I liked the cut I don't think it was the most flattering style I have had. That is the shortest I have ever had my hair, but am open to going shorter if it would look good. I like long hair, but I am just bored with it really - I always had very long hair as a child/younger teen, and now I seem to get bored quite quickly. I have found some short hair pictures that I like, but a lot that I find look quite 90s, or more middle aged. I have attached a couple of photos of me - they aren't terribly recent, so my hair is different, but I am more interested in what would suit my face shape etc. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Based on what you said, you probably will not like my suggestions but I think with your eyes and cheekbones the following would look awesome.  You have the same hair type as my wife and would benefit from a bob, but not a layered bob!

The first is fairly similar to what I had last year - it was the same length and I also had a fringe, although a little lighter than that. Mine did have layers, but it didn't look terribly layered really. I found it made my face look quite long though, which is strange as I never really think I have a long face (in some pictures I think it looks quite round!), but it definitely looked longer when it was chin length than when it is longer, which I thought was odd. I don't really seem to have any pictures of it for some reason. I could try a non layered bob I guess. I was thinking about something a bit shorter - maybe a long pixie (oxymoron?!), or some other type of short cut, but I don't know if they would suit me.

Wow, I didn't get the feel that you are that willing to go short.  I love the longish pixie and yes it would look GREAT on you.  Again, those cheekbones and eyes would be emphasized with that cut.  About something like these:

Oh I particularly like that second one - do you know who that is by any chance so I could look for some more pictures of her?

Pictures I had already found that I particularly liked were Mandy Moore's hair short like http://www.aahairstyle.com/mandy-moore-with-short-hair/ - http://www.aahairstyle.com/mandy-moore-with-short-hair/  particularly in the second picture, although they are presumably all the same cut? And I also liked http://www.ukhairdressers.com/style/index2.asp?R1=4701&month1=66&pg=1&styl1=Headmasters - http://www.ukhairdressers.com/style/index2.asp?R1=4701&month1=66&pg=1&styl1=Headmasters  and http://www.dailymakeover.com/hairstyles/all_womens_looks/josie_bissett_may_02_2008?tid_ref=958 - http://www.dailymakeover.com/hairstyles/all_womens_looks/josie_bissett_may_02_2008?tid_ref=958

There are lots of pictures I have found that I absolutely love, but just know my hair wouldn't do, or not without a lot of work anyway, and although I don't mind spending time on my hair sometimes, I don't want something that is going to be essential to spend ages on every day or it will look awful. But as I said, I have never had my hair shorter than chin length before, so I really have no idea what sort of cut would suit me. Out of interest, what shape face would you say I have? I am never sure. I will try and take a couple of pictures this week so I have something more recent, and maybe one with my hair all tied up so you can see my face shape better?

Ahh, I did wonder if it was her but I wasn't sure - she looked thinner than she usually does. I have always liked her hair. I preferred the short hair to the bob that she has now, but she seems to be the sort of person who looks good whatever. I guess when you are that pretty you can have your hair however you like! Because my hair is quite fine and straight, I don't know if it would end up being very flat in that type of cut, and not looking remotely like hers does, as her hair is much wavier and fuller than mine is when long. There are so many styles I see that I love, but know my hair wouldn't do - I like lots of the kind of messier pixie type cuts, but I am fairly sure my hair would just end up very flat and not at all how I wanted. It would be nice to have hair with a bit of a natural wave!
