Hi, everyone. I don't know if this is the right board to ask about it, so if it isn't please forgive me.

Well, here's the thing: I'm a guy and I tend to do some things with my hair that are dumb and mostly unhealthy, but I want to know how bad they are. For example, I have hair that is mildly dry and damaged on some parts because I tend to rub it a lot to get a shape that I can't achieve with a comb (yeah, I know it's a stupid thing to do). So when I shower I use a fine-toothed comb on my wet hair and while washing off the conditioner to untangle it. I also do a "wet hair and comb it with the fine-toothed comb" routine over the course of the day sometimes.

Now, I've been doing this for quite a while (because I'm an idiot and avoid asking people for information), but I read it that combing your wet hair is bad because it's more fragile and this can lead to hair loss over the time. Since I'm doing this while showering and from the root, and also sometimes multiple times a day, how damaging this can be? What should I to instead to untangle it?

Thanks in advance.

Gev, To sum it up so its easy to understand think of your hair strand as a string. if you pull on the string to hard it breaks. If you wet the string and pull it it will stretch and may not go back to its original strength. Your hair is much like a piece of string though many strands.

Is it good to comb wet hair? I believe in leave in conditioners and a wide tooth comb. If I am washing hair prior to a cut I like to use a conditioning rinse that wont weight the hair down so I could see how it moves with the style. If normal everyday use as I stated use leave in conditioners or do not totally rinse out the conditioner you have have. Its a great idea when in the sun to apply conditioners also. Food for thought-Food for hair. Hope this helps.
