I bought demi-permanent color by mistake, but I have some 20 and 30 vol developer at home, can I use either so it lifts and lightens my color? I'm really only trying to go about 2 shades lighter and I know I can just return it and buy something else. I was just wondering though if the only difference between demi, semi, and permanent is the developer strength or if the actual tube of color is different chemically as well. Thanks.

What brand did you buy? I would return it and get a permanent dye and use the 20 volume. 30 will lift too much if you only want to go 2 shades lighter. So 20 would be perfect. Demis can only deposit color and can't lift and some demis don't need to be mixed with a developer. It all depends on what you have? But I think you'd be safer exchanging it. Good Luck!
