I have red tinted hair with bright red highlights that I got done professionally at a salon. The bottom of my hair is really porous and doesn't keep the dye well (it is from over bleaching it a year ago) and a week later all of the red dye on the bottom half of my hair is gone. I went to Sally's and bought Ion Medium Intense Red Blonde (it is the color that most matches the one I have now) and volume 20 developer. What I was wondering was if I used that dye and developer would it fill in my highlights and maybe lighten my hair a little (at worst) or would I lose my highlights and have it all become one color? I really want to keep the highlights, they are beautiful. I just want to touch up the bottom.

Use a red based protein filler before you color, this is found at Sally's as well. It Helps the color take evenly and last longer. Only put the color on the parts that need done. It will color your highlights and all.
