Hi!
I have read a lot about how you are not supposed to use brushed to detangle hair. I also see a lot of people saying that combs with seams should not be used either. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good comb to use. the cheaper the better though because I am a poor college student.

Hi Maura

I like Kent's range of seamless combs.
Here in the U.K they cost from £3 to £5.

I checked the HairBoutique MarketPlace for seamless combs but couldn't find any, so in case you want to buy online, here is a link to a reputable site where you can buy one:

Hope that helps .

Hi Maura! Welcome!

The Body Shop makes a nice wooden wide-tooth comb for $5.

But I find combing with my fingers is the least-damaging route. But when I really must be absolutely tangle free, I like my Body Shop comb.

FYI, it's also least damaging if you begin by combing the ends out, then starting a little higher, then a little higher, until finally you start with the comb near your scalp and you run it the length of your hair.
If you comb the old fashioned way of starting with the comb near your scalp and just pulling it all the way down to the ends, you push tangles down to the ends, and you make them even tighter! And your ends are the most fragile part of your hair...

OK that was more info than you asked for. I'll shut up now. :)

I have a wooden comb and I always use it to comb oil through my damp hair. The wood soaks up the excess oil keeping my hair from excess greasiness and it conditions the comb and preserves it. Works great, I think!!!!

Karrinne! I've never seen your hair before! It's gorgeous!

I'm surprised you say you comb it wet. Yours looks finer than mine, and if I so much as look at mine crooked when it's wet, it rips and breaks.

What kind of oil do you use? I feel like I've asked you this question before in another thread. Monoi?

I ordered the NuBone II comb from www.tenderheaded.com...it is HORRIBLE! It has more "seams" and sharp rough edges than I have ever seen on a comb...I'm returning it. The store itself was fine though...I just wouldn't recommend this particular product. Just so you know. :)

I use sweet almond oil on my hair. I mix an ounce of it with about 3 or 4 drops lavendar oil and put it in an oil mister (from a kitchen shop, supposed to use it to make your own Pam type spray) and spray my hair with it. Keeps me from getting too much oil on it too!!
