My best friend's dad really blew his top when she chemically straightened her naturally curly hair. Her dad told her,”you had the most beautiful curls ever! Why did you ruin them?” Then he repeated the same comment many times to her. 

 

I thought he shouldn't have said anything or if he did, he should have been nicer to her about it.  Now she feels terrible but of course her hair is stick straight with not a hint of curl. 

 

Is it ever appropriate for family members to criticize hair treatments, cuts or styles?  What should you say when it happens?  Thoughts?
